Yes, and yes and yummmy! Not only did we get our wedding cake from them (which was whipped icing I believe) but I've also had several b-day cakes from there. They were all delicious! You must be so excited now. I remember when you had a year to go!! I can't believe that wasn't very long ago!
I know its so close and the cake has been a nightmare for me.... each time I think about whipped cream I am horrified thinking about the fluffy stuff they used on cakes in the 90s. I called and they eased my mind but I was hoping to get some feedback from you ladies. I am SO excited finally, it just hit me today for the first time
I hate fondant so we went with the whipped icing. The cake turned out beautifully. I wish I could PIP for you to see to ease your mind, but my work won't let me do any photosharing sites. I'll see if I can post a picture of the cake tonight when I get home. Villa Italia are proffesionals and are still in business for a reason, becuase they are awesome! Don't waste your energy worrying about it! (I know that is very hard to do!) Channel the zen bride. That was my mantra!
well my issues started because every cake I loved was made of fondant but because they use "real" ingredients for their fillings, the moisture level is too high to work with fondant unless you use carrotcake and creamcheese filling or buttercream filling on chocolate or vanilla cake which I was not thrilled with. We scrapped the fondant idea and picked out a buttercream decided I was not too please with but could not find one that I liked. Eventually I said screw it, we will do an entirely carrotcake cake (my FAVORITE by the way) and do fondant, if guests don't like it, these is a vienesse table. Went back to Villa and showed them the new fondant cake picture and they said it can totally be done in Whip with any fillings I wanted so thats where I stand now but always think of cakes that look like this: http://bethecake.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/whipped-cream-cake.jpg
Wow I've posted alot today! Alina don't worry! I had the whipped frosting and was worried that the cake would look awful! It turned out amazing (the designs were fantastic)...and most importantly...delicious!
I just looked at the link that you posted and that is absolutely not what it will look like! That looked more like whipped cream than whipped icing! I'm on a mission to post the picture to put your mind at ease!
I tiny urled it and then used the image code [img*]tinyurlnobold[/*img]I usually have trouble so maybe we switched abilities today. Plus the link you posted had breaks in it so that might have been the problem! I'm inspired now, I may try to put a picture in my siggy!
BTW - how many guests did you have? Our cake lady said she would only do 3 tiers for 130 people. I wondered if that was normal (especially since you don't usually eat the top tier).
it depends on the size of the tiers. we are having a vienesse table and thus making ours a SMALL three tired (6, 8, 10) others are 8, 10, 12 i think and if so, that sounds about right, not everyone eats wedding cake. is it being served tableside?
I went with villa Italia, and i am also doing the whipped cream frosting. It also has a design even though they are only dots. But the cake is fantastic, the frosting unbelievable, and they do a wonderful job. Ours is marble cake with strwberries and the french vanila custard i think, and its like a big strawberry shortcake cake. It was so good at the trial so dont worry. they are fantastic there. no worries......you will be fine. and they dont look like your picture. you really couldnt tell it was whip cream and not buttercream. HTH
You must be getting excited for the big day. So you are getting your cake from Villa italia and not glen sanders. I was thinking of getting some sort of speciality cake there for the grooms cake and using the Glen Sanders for the wedding cake....did you not like the Glen Sanders Cake?Good luck and have fun at your wedding.
I don't know much about the glen sanders cake bc they were still using villa when we booked. We also asked for acake credit bc my mom has some former business connections and we considered a cake from the city. Turns out, our cake credit is for more than the cost of our cake
I see ...now they are using the guy who does all there pastries and he used to work for villa italia so fingers crossed everything will work out.Good luck on your upcoming wedding and thank you for all the glen sanders input..cant wait to hear how wonderful it was.
iamjoesgirl- Thanks! I had five tiers as you can see and we had 190 guests. We served the cake as dessert immediately after dinner (we cut the cake after the salad was served). Then had all the pastries come out about an hour later.
Alina...I'm so bad at the posting of stuff...but drop me a line and I can send you a link to my photographer's site...and they have tons of close ups of the cake so you can see! I was really worried too...so I understand! Here is my email: rockyandsara09 at yahoo dot com
