Registering.. When???????

I know this has been on here a million times but I couldn't find the postings. When is a good time to register? On my little knot planner it says to start that process but we aren't getting married until Oct. 2010...seems like kinda far away. Thoughts??

Stores will tell you to register RIGHT AWAY cause some people will start to want to buy you presents right away.

It's in their interest to get you to register as soon as possible, though.

There's nothing wrong with registering early, but it can have its downfalls.  For example, things you register for now may not be in stock for the next season.

I'm getting married in October 2010 also, and just set up my registry.  I decided to wait until I heard someone ask about it, and someone did.  So I registered and gave my MOH the info by email.

You can still wait a while before you register, but you need to do so at least before your first shower, or even engagement party (if you're having one).  Before any pre-wedding event, really.  Just in case.

As I said, we just started our registry, but it's nowhere near complete.  We have just a few items on there right now, and will add more to it as we get closer to the date.  It's good to get a little done now, though, so we're not scrambling before the first shower!

    I hope this helps :)

PP gave you some great advice.  I would like to add that if you have the time now, start the registry.  You don't have to put everything on there right now but at least get it started.  As your wedding approaches time will be scarce and you will thank yourself for getting it out of the way early.  That being said you should monitor it every couple of months to make sure items haven't been discontinued.  Happy registering!
