Major budget downsize - need a new venue

My FI and I had to reevaluate our budget today, as I lost my job and we are extremely tight on money.  At this point, our original venue would cause us to be almost $12K, but our new budget s $5K.  We need to forfeit our deposit on our venue, and find something new.
What we are looking for - an outdoor setting, or indoor with a large deck.  Some sort of garden, mountain or water vew.  The ability to self cater, includng alcohol.  Seating (or room to seat) 80-100 guests.  And the total cost, including food, needs to be under $5K.  The ceremony is in Saratoga, so we need a place within 30 minutes of there.
Any help is greatly apprecated.

Re: Major budget downsize - need a new venue

  • Have you thought about Arrowhead lodge?  You can bring in your own caterer there, or even some of the local churches have large rooms, some of the firehouses in the area also are much more reasonably priced
  • Saratoga State Park or the Crossings in Colonie
  • Fish Creek Marina near Saratoga Lake has what looks to be a nice gazebo: http://www.fishcreekmarina.com/events.htm.

I second Saratoga State Park.  The shelters with huge fireplaces in the middle are about $300 to reserve if memory serves me correctly.  My friend went to a wedding there and they put tea lights all around and had Gravity (local Saratoga band) play, and they said it was very nice.  Also, I know they have been working on renovating certain shelters in the Park, and the bathrooms in the bigger shelters have been renovated.

That's all I have off the top of my head!  Good luck with everything!

"It starts out all very nice, two people promising to be together forever, I'll die when you die, my life meant nothing until you used my toothbrush. Then you start planning the wedding. Aunt Junie's allergic to milk. Uncle Momo's off his meds..."
  • Thanks for the suggestions.  I am really hoping for Spa State Park, as it's the best overall, but I can't get ahold of the guy.  The rental fee is $250, which is wonderful, but his voicemail says he will get back to me at "his convenience" which to me is rude.

The arrowhead lodge is very nice looking, but unless there are two in NY, the only one I am finding is in Liverpool, which at 4 hours is a little bit of a long drive from ceremony to reception :)  We are getting married at a church that doesn't have a fellowship hall big enough, so going to another one won't work.  And firehouses in the area are all out - my parents are very active in the firefighting community, and per the local "rules" I can't use anything but their firehouse, which is already booked that day.  But thanks so much for the suggestions!
