Kid Friendly Ideas

One thing my fiance and I wanted to do for our reception is to make it kid friendly. We are getting married at Mallozzi's   but we have lots of nieces and nephews between the two of us.  Most of them average from 3-8, few older ,few younger. We want them to have fun and not be bored.... any suggestions???
Thanks!

You don't need to do anything special for them.  A lot of brides consider coloring books and activity pails, but kids at a wedding don't want that.  They want to drink something fancy from the bar (n/a of course), dance with their cousins, and eat.

Think back to when you were a kid - would you have wanted to sit and color when you could be eating and dancing?  They'll be just fine without anything special.

We did coloring books for the kids.  It was a big hit!  Some kids didn't even touch them but others loved them.  The biggest hit was glow necklaces.  I ordered them from Oriental Trading company and they provided lots of entertainment.  We also had a room off to the side where kids could get away from the action if needed, or for moms to give the little ones a diaper change or time-out, whatever was needed!

We did hire someone to man the extra room and that was a bit of a waste of money.  There were multiple kids in the room only for a short period of time w/o their parents so it wasn't necessary.  Oh well!

I have to say that the kids at my wedding loved the activity books too.  I would guess that they used them during the appetizer time when people were mingling.

They also liked the food/drinks.  One thing we wouldn't have expected - I took plastic spoons and made chocolate spoons (dipping them in chocolate and decorating them).  The spoons were at the coffee bar and a lot of the kids went and got them just to eat.  So I would recommend that you focus on some simple things like special foods/drinks/snacks for the kids and some sort of activity that they can choose whether or not to do.

By the way, a few of the kids at our wedding danced but the majority did not.

I'm going with little pumpkins with washable markers for the kids to color them. Also crayons with coloring books. (september wedding)

The place we are getting actually has miniture tables for dining. They will be served the standard chicken nuggets and french fries or mac and cheese.

Coloring books and everything will be set on thier tables so easy acess to keep them entertained.

The glow sticks are a really good idea!  I've been trying to think of doing something kid friendly as well since there will be some children at our reception (I don't want people to not feel welcome if they have young children).  I've been hearing coloring books and activity things are the hit lately.

As a mom of a toddler coloring book/crayons, or any cheap little toy. If it is new it will be entertaining.
