NWR: Need some apartment advice...

Ok so I probably should really join the blog world instead of posting on here all the time lol but I like all the advice I can get... Our lease is up in September, the 21st to be exact... we're paying $1059 a month for a 2/2 with a two car garage which sounds great but I am not a fan of where we live. I will NEVER live by a pool again! Anyway, the apartment across the street that we used to live at is going to let us have a 2/2 with a two car garage over there for about what we're paying here. The problem is with the economy and FI job being in the no longer reliable oilfield I really cringe at spending that much for an apartment.. on top of pet rent (which I think is completely ridiculous that apartments do that but oh well!) Does anyone know of any apartments in North, Northwest Austin, in a good and safe area because I'm alone alot, that don't cost an arm and a leg for rent? We are looking for a two bedroom for sure or even a 1 with a den or study, FI has far too much drumming and music equipment for us to do a 1.. any suggestions? Thanks girls! On another note, I'm tired of being unemployed and while I'm going to school for Nursing it's going to be a while till I'm officially Nurse Amy haha. So I'm going to buy the book and try to pass the pharmacy tech exam. I know they don't make a crazy amount of money, but I don't care, I need something to do and it will give me good skills to be a nurse!

I don't know how far northwest you're willing to go, but I know someone who just got a place at the Toscana apartments in 183 near Anderson Lane, and he apparently got an amazing deal.  2/2 with garage for under $900 I believe and those are "luxury" apartments.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

I used to live at the Madison at Stone Creek off McNeil & 183 right behind Sonic. My ex and I had a 1/1 with a den so basically a 2/1 - I can't say how the $$ are now but then it was $750. I know it's a nice property and was quiet & well maintained. The only drawback was smelling Sonic when you go outside. Ha!  We lived right behind it though behind the tree line, so I'm sure thats not an issue when you get back into the property a bit more. Good luck on the Pharmacy tech exam. I'm sure you'll do great. I thought they made decent $$? At least it's something, and it will be temp until you can do what you really want! Ya know?

FI put himself through college as a pharm tech.  I believe at his (national chain) pharmacy, they start you at around $10/hr, so it's not bad money.  But he hated it- it's far more customer service than medical anything, and just imagine how bitchy people can get if THEY NEED THEIR DRUGS RIGHT NOW.  But it was a nice reliable income while he was in school!  Now we're Walgreens customers for life.  ;)

I work for an apartment complex in Round Rock so that probably wouldn't be much help.  But we have sister properties in the Arboretum area.  What's your price range?  You can email me if you want.  crownprincess at gmail dot com.

If you are willing to go a little further, we live in awesome apartments in Pflugerville.  It's called Alexan Swenson Farms and we are in a 930 sq. ft. apt for only $710 (we just renewed and rent went down), I think right now 2 bedrooms are going for around $8-900) a month so a little cheaper.  We have already been here a year and really like the location, plus the apartments are really nice, IMO.

You may want to look into a few apartment complexes on Metric Blvd in between Braker and Parmer. Some of them will be in your price range and it isn't a bad area, mostly students who go to ACC or younger fresh graduates. You can even walk to a few places, which I find difficult to do up north and it's close to trails that lead to Walnut Creek Park for the doggie. :)

If you have a doggie, that is. If not, it's a nice place to walk around in anyway! lol

FI and I are moving in a couple weeks to a 2/2 unit in a fourplex off of Metric between Braker and Parmer for $735. No garage, but 2 reserved parking spaces. Not sure about their pet policy. Unless it's leased already, they have another one available. Email me if you want more info secondstar2theright [at] gmail [dot] com.
