Dress expectation

I am new to the knottie boards, but did not see any other posts regarding this issue.  I may be looking at having my wedding in May 2010.....will this be an issue with finding a dress for a wedding that soon?  I guess I'm trying to figure out what's a realistic timeline for purchasing a wedding dress and getting alterations done for the big day.  Thankschristy

You still have plenty of time. Just pick out a design you like within the next month and order it. I think it takes up to 5 months to get a dress in, but I really have no idea because I am not ordering mine from a store.

It depends what you are looking for. Most bridal stores will say it takes 4-5 months to order a dress. However, if the dress is coming from another country it may take longer (I think ShanWalk got hers from a Spanish designer and it took awhile). You have plenty of time. Your wedding is 9 months out - I got engaged 9 months before my big day! People scared me into thinking I was late on buying a dress, so I ended up purchasing it 7 months before the wedding. It took 4 months to come in and my alterations are taking about 3 weeks. HTH!

When I was shopping for a dress, I was told anywhere from 3 to 6 months was how long it would take for the dress to come in, depending on the designer. And I'm pretty sure you'll be good if you allow a month for alterations! AND, if you're planning on doing bridal portraits, allow another month of lead time. Your photographer will need that time to shoot, edit and order your prints! So, you're looking at 8 months, MAX. When you're trying on the dresses, be sure to ask the salon how long they take to come in, and how much is rush shipping if you think you'll need it. I wouldn't worry, but I would suggest you start looking ASAP! :) Good luck!

Its all totally going to depend on what you like. I know alot of them take 4-6 months t come in. But, mine takes 10 months to come in and even though I ordered it in Feb. I won't be getting it til the end of Dec.

I'm getting married in June 2010 and I'm not going shopping until the end of this month.  I'm planning to buy sometime this fall (probably not when I go shopping because I like to obsess over things... ;) )

I got married in late May, 2006, but didn't find my dress until around Thanksgiving, 2005.  You have plenty of time.

Hi Christy!Although I do NOT reccommend you do as I did (walked into David's Bridal 48 hours before my wedding, looking for a wedding gown! See my vendor reviews post)... it is entirely possible to order your dress in January or February and have it delivered AND altered on time.In my case it was easier because I fell in love with a dress and it happened to be available in my size right then.Best wishes!
