videographer... to have or not to have

My FI and I are trying to decide whether or not we want to spend the money on a videographer or if we even want one. I think it would be neat to have a 10 minute recap of the day but I don't want a minute by minute replay. Does anyone have suggestions one way or the other? Or recommendations for videographers in the Austin area?

We're using Graymask for our videographer, and I am just in love with his teaser trailers.  You can check them out at graymask.net.  I start grinning like a fool every time I watch them.We weren't going to have video originally, but so many people said we would regret not having one, so we decided to go for it.  We found Graymask on Craigslist, and I know a lot of other brides here have found really great, but affordable videographers off CL as well.

If you decide you can't afford one, I would highly suggest at least having someone video for you.  I paid my best friend's 16 year old son $100 to video our rehearsal dinner and wedding and I'm so glad I have it.  It's not professional quality, but it captured the day and I love watching it.  Plus, there is countless inexpensive video editing software out there that you can play around with and create your own "wedding video."  You'll never regret having something videoed at your wedding, even though it isn't professional.

ditto the pp on at least getting something.  We weren't going to spend the money either, but then I convinced DH to let me have $500 of the budget to try and find someone.  I knew it wouldn't be as fabulous as all the expensive videos, but it got me 2 cameras during the ceremony (one un-manned) and then he stayed for almost all of the reception.   At the last minute, DH's grandma & grandpa weren't able to travel to the wedding, so this was the only way they got to see it.  We're SO glad we got one.  It would have been a huge regret if we hadn't.

I would do something.  Our videographer didn't show up on our day and it is the biggest regret we have.

BTW - Our videographer was a co-worker... he was going to try to break in to the industry.  Not a very good start.

Im planning on it, but only because most of FI's family is in Romania and is therefore not able to attend. I had the grand idea of streaming it live for them, and he is a techhie so he could probably figure it out, but we havent gotten that far into detail planning. At the very least, at least one of my step sisters will probably have a video camera attached to her, like usual, so we can use some of that footage and he or my bff's boyfriend can edit it for us.

We could only afford someone to video the ceremony.  I would be so sad if I didn't have it.  The ceremony was the most important part, and having it on video was very important.  We paid $75 to a guy we found on craigslist.  Surprisingly, a friend (my MOH's FI) brought a video camera and videoed all the toats, ect during the reception.

When we were planning a wedding I was like you and didn't know if I needed one. However, we ended up getting one and it is absolutely awesome. Our videographer was there before the wedding started until the end but it wasn't a minute by minute replay. It was clips of the day, except for the vows, it had all of the vows and it is so awesome to watch back. I highly recommend my videographer David and Alicia Villanueva. We were only the second wedding he had ever done but you couldn't tell. He has a degree in film. His email is dnavideography@yahoo.com Tell him Mandy sent you.

DO IT!!!!!  I promise you will not regret spending the $$.  You may not think you want to relive every minute, but after the day you have been meticulously planning for months flies by in what feels like seconds....you will be desperate for a way to remember it!!  See my link below for our videographer review :)

I decided at the last minute to get a videographer but also did not want to spend a ton.  I went with Richard Lizama (www.richardlizama.com).  I haven't received the video yet (wedding was last week), but he seemed to be everywhere.  Definitely take a look at him!

DO IT!  Best money we spent.  Our guy put two highlight clips together for us.  I watch them all the time.  Ramsay Video Productions. One of our highlight videos is on his website. Posted on July 18th http://www.ramsayvideo.net/
