Austin Girls' Weekend?

Hey ladies!  I am not from the Austin area, but live in a small West Texas town.  Some of my girlfriends and I are planning to take a little girls' weekend trip to Austin soon, before my wedding (I know, I know...I am not to be involved in planning my own party...but i'm home with a sick child today and my gf has asked me to do a little searching and start getting some ideas for us.)  Anyway, I was hoping some of you ladies could give me some ideas?   We are all in our lower to mid 30's.  We thought we would make an evening of drinking/bar.  Any suggestions there?   We are not big shoppers, so we don't really want to spend any time shopping, but we thought maybe a play or a mani pedi type or thing.  If you have any good ideas for places to stay that would be conviently located, that would be great, too.  Thanks in advance, ladies!

for places to stay...the hilton on 4th, stephen f. austin, radisson on cesar chavez, hilton garden inn on 5th and IH-35, the driskill. cork and co. on s. congress or uncorked on e. 7th and IH-35 are both great if you like wine. i would definitely suggest the warehouse district for drinks...219 West, Saba, Malaga, Six are all places i enjoy. milk and honey is a great place for mani/pedis and is also within walking distance of all the hotels. have a great time!

Agree w/ pp, but would like to add that the Hyatt is another reasonably priced downtown hotel. I'm pretty sure you can get a cheap room at the Omni through Hotwire too. As for bars, I love Brown Bar (martinis) and Key Bar (perfect margaritas). Either place would be a good one to start the night and see where the evening goes. Cedar Street usually has an 80s or 90s cover band playing in the courtyard. Really fun dancing without having to worry about skeezy people.

Maybe try going to Esther's Follies - it's a comedy show that's really funny, and on 6th street. have fun!

you know, depending on how many girlfriends your bringing, you might try looking craigslist vacation rentals or vrbo.com or homeaway.com, there's a lot of downtown condos for rent that are pretty close to the price of a hotel and you'd be able to bring food and such. could be fun!
