No idea! But I'm interested as well. His work is excellent.

Did you ever get a hold of him? I was trying to get a hold of him for a really long time and at first he was quick in responding but then he got really busy and was a pain to get a hold of. I thought that was really unprofessional.

There's a lot to write. Mr. Melton of Clayton Austin Photography misrepresented his services to us, made verbal promises he didn’t want to keep, failed to honor his contract and turned out to be, in our opinion, a self-aggrandizing, arrogant amateur with poor interpersonal skills when dealing with clients. Of particular interest to potential clients is the fact that Clayton Austin does not remove blemishes from finished, hand-edited photos even though he may promise up front that he does.(as he did for us). If he makes this promise, be a good consumer and get it in writing!

    See our blog for more.

We were thinking of hiring him but after speaking with him on the phone, I was a little put off.  We thought that we would set up and engagement shoot to get a better feel for him but he said that he didn't do engagement shoots with couples unless they were booking him for their wedding.  He also basically said that since we weren't 100% on board that he didn't feel comfortable going forward with us.  Craziest thing ever.

I love Clayton's work and think he is a very talented artist. However, HE LOST OUR WEDDING PHOTOS! The hard drives our images were on apparently fell of the shelf they were both on and were destroyed. I'm a photographer myself, and this was an extremely difficult, irreplaceable loss. My husband and I tried to be as understanding as possible (I realize this was an accident, and could happen to anyone), however we were extremely disappointed with Clayton's lack of communication after the fact. We did not get a final word about the images or a refund until EIGHT MONTHS after our wedding! And this was due to my own efforts in contacting him multiple times!

Bottom line, Clayton is a wonderful artist. But I hope he becomes a better business person and learns to deal with accidents such as these with better treatment of his clients. Be sure you hire your photographer based on more than just artistic talent. I learned the hard way and now I wish we went with someone else.

We received an email (not a phone call, an email!) three months out from our daughter's wedding that he had unfortunately double booked. An "administrative error" he called it. He went on to say he would help us find another photographer and understood my agitation. No - he had NO clue how agitated I was. His explanation was that another client had to change their venue, and he had already given our date to them. We signed a contract six months previous ... it took that long to figure it out??? Not only did he NOT help us find another photographer, but when I asked when the other client had signed their contract, I was told "I don't see where that is important". This guy did not even have the courtesy to pick up the phone and call. He sent an email , which to us, was a coward's way out. Would not recommend him for a senior graduation shoot, much less a wedding.

DON'T HIRE HIM!   It has been a year since our wedding and he has yet to give us our photos.  He has not returned a single phone call during our year of waiting.   I fear that he has lost our photos and is too cowardice to admit it.   He is a terrible person.
  • II agree with the folks below.  I too hired Clayton Austin for my wedding and he cost me a fortune.  He "Lost" our photos as well.  The stress and disappointment this caused my whole family is just awful.  Now whenever anyone brings up my wedding - the conversation immediately goes to Clayton Austin because it upset me and my husband so much.  This is not what you want to remember about your wedding.  I don't wish this man any harm because it is not in my nature to want to get even or anything.  I've never written a bad review in my life.  But, this was beyond bad.  I don't want anyone else to have to deal with this.  Trying to force this man to reply and try to fix a bad situation was impossible even after we hired an attorney.  He edits photos and puts them on his blog for his business immediately.  But, when it comes to doing the right thing by his clients and getting them what they need, he couldn't care less.  He is not an honest man and he is obviously just in it for himself.  Please beware and read all reviews.  He posts good ones himself, it's quite obvious.  I wish we would have been more thorough in checking him out.  He is a very talented artist but it's useless to you if you never get your photos.  I hope he changes his actions towards his clients because I have a hard time believing he is a bad person.
  • WOW. I am SO thankful to all of the people who have posted reviews about Clayton's business practices. I'm looking for a wedding photographer in the Cental Texas area right now and had it not been for the warnings I found on the internet I would have contacted him. Even if I had chosen not to believe his negative reviewswhich are obviously true I checked him out with the BBB. This guys rating is F!!!! That's right, F! Thank you to the couples who took the time to write about their experiences! It broke my heart to read how this man treated you.
