Marriage Counselors?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a marriage counselor? The rabbi who will be officiating at our wedding doesn't do marriage counseling, but it is something my fiance and I would like to do. We're looking for someone non-denominational, i.e., a counselor/therapist/psychologist.

You may want to check in to the Twogether in Texas program.  If you do premarital counseling that way it waves your marriage license fee and you only have to pay like $7.  We did that just for the marriage license cost and was still going to do counseling with our pastor but ended up feeling like we really got a lot out of the one we went too.www dot twogetherintexas dot com

My FI and I are going to a councilor for the same reason. Her name is Tina Strarup. She has been really great so far. And my insurance is covering the costs of everything so I am even happier! Her number is 512-625-5660Good luck!

I tried to figure outthe twogether in texas site and its baffling me. I search for a provider and they give me a list, but none of those people have it on their website. Are these seminars that are set up in a specific place. I found that Lutheran Social Services does them, but they stopped in Sept 09, however the link they give you to follow just send you back to their site. SO how does it work? Do you contact providers yourself, or is there some grand master list of when and where they are offerred?

Shelby & Ken Cuthrell run a Twogether in Texas program which gives you the certificate for free and also offer marriage workshops for a small fee (I think they were part of the LSS on there). I was just invited to a workshop on Sunday for $7.50/pp. They are non-denom (I am agnostic and FI is Jewish so we didn't want anything religious). Anywhoo - you can call them to find out more at 512-905-9972. They are super nice & fun.

Hmm, I guess they aren't doing it anymore.  We did it through LSS.  I would click on your area and then find a location you like and email those places to see what their options are.

I talked with the Rep for Twogether in Texas at the last bridal expo. He said that the Allen House put on a workshop that provided lunch. If I remember correctly their workshop was not religious based. You might try to contact them.

Hm, thanks all for the help! I'll try the Strarup, Cuthrell and Allen House suggestions.I think the deal with the state website is that providers go through a pretty basic process to register with the state as a marriage counseling provider (so that the state knows that people who go through their counseling can get a marriage license discount) and then the rest is up to the individual provider in terms of how they publicize it to people and enroll people.
