Hey everyone! So... as we plan our wedding, FI keeps telling me that the only thing he really has an opinion about is how the ceremony goes. Flowers, cake, centerpieces, food... he doesn't care what I pick as long as he gets a significant say in how the ceremony goes, which (for the most part) is just fine with me. And what he wants more than anything for the ceremony his own song for he and the WP to walk in to. Alright... that's cool I guess. But he wants it to be the Superman theme by John Williams. (He's had an obsession with Superman since he was 3.) Obviously, I'm still trying to decide how I feel about this.
On the one hand, I think it's a super cool idea. It's his wedding day as much as mine, and the Superman idea would definitely make it personal and unique to us and him. I love the guy, and I want him to feel special too.
On the other hand, I kind of feel like it detracts from (dare I say it) MY moment. You know... the entrance is really the only part of the ceremony that's all about the bride. I keep picturing it in my head and I keep wondering, will him having a song before me (especially one as epic as Superman) just kind of make me seem like an afterthought? And, is a superhero theme/song a little weird for a wedding anyway?
I dunno. Maybe I'm being too dramatic about it. What do you guys think?

Sarah: Agreed.
Thanks for keeping me down to earth ladies.
But that's not to say you can't have a "groom's processional" where they walk down the aisle and take their places at the altar area. If he wants Superman music, then no harm in letting him have a small request. Anyone that knows him well will "get" it.
But I can't help but think that the Superman theme music would be much more appropriate as grand entrance music into the reception, in conjunction with a Superman groom's cake.
Also, the nice thing about the John Williams Superman theme is that it's not terribly well known... it won't be like him walking in to say Star Wars or Indiana Jones. And it's a very grand, "tada! here I am!" kind of theme, which I think is fun and kind of what he's going for. Plus, we're not really planning to be announced at the reception (especially because it's at the same place as the ceremony), so while the idea of using it for the entrance to the reception is a good idea it's not something that we're likely to do. We've also thought about having a superman groom's cake, but his aunt is baking & decorating our wedding cake for us and I don't know that she's up to doing another cake (especially one with a symbol like that that's easier to mess up on than you'd think).
