My FI and I are having a mini vacation to celebrate our engagement. Are their any fun things to do, things to eat, places to see that you could suggest? Thanks

Go see the bats at sunset fly out from under the Congress St. bridge. Have brunch on Sunday at Fonda San Miguel. It's pretty expensive, but worth it. Amazing interior Mexican food.

Go have lunch/dinner at the Oasis on Lake Travis - it's beautiful at sunset. The food isn't great but the view is!

If you like the outdoors/nature go to Zilker Park & Zilker Botanical Gardens downtown.

The bats is a great idea from the previous post!

If you want to take a tour of the city I would HIGHLY recommend a Segway Tour with SegCity. I did one for my birhtday a few weeks ago and it was a blast!

Another fun touristy thing is the duck tour - takes you on a tour of austin and then the vehicle "turns" into a boat and goes in the water.

Mt. Bonnel is a really pretty spot with a view of the river/lake and the 360 bridge.

    Fun places to go:

South Congress for shopping in lots of cute little shops. You can also stop in at the Continental Club on S. Congress and see free music on weekend days.

The Blanton Museum of Art: UT's art museum, they have an exhibit on Mattisse's prints right now. There is also the LBJ Library & Museum, if you're into presidential history, or the Ransom center, UT's amazing archives and exhibit space. Current exhibition: Making Movies. It looks pretty good!

Swimming: You can go swimming at Barton Springs every day but Thursday (I think?). Admission is $3.  The water is really cold and it's good for people-watching.

Chicken-s**t Bingo: It's on Sunday at 4 pm, at Ginny's Little Longhorn saloon. Dale Watson usually sings (he's amazing!) and there is a chicken s#*t bingo drawing, with a real live chicken,  every hour or so and you can actually win money. $2 lonestars!

Flowers/nature: I really like the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, it's beautiful. Zilker Botanical Gardens are nice too and unlike the Wildflower Center, admission is free.

Alamo Drafthouse: See a movie and eat dinner or delicious appetizers while you watch! And beer and wine. The Paramount is also a really beautiful theater and if you like old movies, they're doing a summer film festival right now with classic films.

    Places to eat:
    Curra's
    Polvo's
    Moonshine Bar & Grill
    The Red House
    East Side Showroom
    Home Slice
    Tacodeli
    Trailers everywhere!

There are of course a lot of places to eat (and things to do) but these are some of my favorites. Maybe you could pick up an Austin Chronicle when you get here and just see what's going on for the weekend. Have fun!
