HOT weather e-pics suggestions?

We are meeting with a photog on Sunday who is beginning to build a portfolio, so instead of a 'coffee meeting' to look over past shoots he is offering a couple trials free of charge. Since we really want to book him (if we do) before Aug 1st we have scheduled a shoot this Sunday.

WHERE in Austin can we pull this off in the heat? We plan on bringing the dog for this one, I know there isn't much we can do about heat with her but we definitely want to avoid urban settings since we will need to have her lay down to the side for a while when she isn't part of the shot. (this is not a prob the dog is very well trained so having someone hold her leash wont be necessary, she'll do a down- stay for 2 hrs if asked).

I was thinking Mayfield Park bc I am having a peacock theme for the wedding but I dont know if they are dog friendly.

Any suggestions?

we did our e-pics this past tuesday starting at 6:45pm and my hair & makeup melted in about 30 mins.  i also got eaten alive by mosquitos and FI got pigeon poop all over his back & armpit sweat stains to match.  ha.  we had a blast though =)  not sure if mayfield park is doggie friendly, but another couple of places that offer some trees and shade are:  the capitol grounds (you don't have to photograph with the building itself, there's plenty of other options with the trees, benches, etc) and the space in front of the four seasons on lady bird lake.  there are a couple of docs there that overlook the lake and the lawn in front of the four seasons is really green and with plenty of trees/shade.

Oh no!! That's awful. My FI and I need to get our e-pics done too. Maybe we should wait til the weather cools down? We already sent out our save the dates, so I don't see why we'd have to do them this early. (wedding in Nov)

it really was fine.  we're getting married on october 29th, but due to a bunch of schedule conflicts we wouldn't be able to take the e-pics in october and i don't anticipate it being any cooler in august or september.  we tried to stay in the shade and our photog promised that he would be able to photoshop the shining sweat off my face in our favorite top 10 -15 photos.  we truly had a lot of fun and the heat, etc was just a minor inconvenience - so i wouldn't want to discourage anyone from taking their photos in the summer.  have fun & best of luck!

LOL sounds like a nightmare! I carry OFF in my car at all times I HATE mosquitos. How early is too early to ask a photog to meet? UndecidedI was thinking we might stand a chance bt 9-10:30am. If we like him then we can always do another shot at sunset somewhere else. The main shoot is planned for Oct so we can send out STD's for our march 27 wedding.
I did find out Mayfield is dog friendly (on leash) so I was thinking Mt. Bonnel, then Mayfield w/peacocks and gardens, and wrap at red bud isle and let the doggie splash a littlebit? Has anyone been to that dog park? I never have so i have no idea how busy it would be in the morning.

Early in the morning or close to dusk would be the best times to take them in the summer. 9am is not to early. The natural lighting is still nice at that time.

I was really worried about hair/makeup/discomfort in the heat and humidity currently gripping D.C. (it's about the same temps as Austin right now) so we started our e-pic session at 8 am.  It was a PITA (pain in the a....) to get up at 6 am, roll my hair, do makeup, etc. but it was totally worth it. The photographer loved the light, which looks beautiful in the pictures, no one was around, and it stayed cool until around 11 am when it just got too sunny and sweaty.  Pease Park is a pretty option on 10th and Lamar with tons of open land and the creek bed. You could also consider doing some in a bar or restaurant - some bars are closed during the day except for staff, and might be willing to let you mess around there.

Personally I would love 8am but I dunno about FI and photographer lol.

Wish Baby A's was still dog friendly.... nothing like a purple to get the laughs going!

How about inside... Maybe a place that you love, like a funky Austin restaurant or fun place like a bowling alley, piano bar, pool hall, etc?

We're definitely bringing the dog so indoor wont work anywhere worth taking pics and I'm not sure if I'll want those at all, I really like the nature based ones (?). I'm a little disappointed that we didnt get this together in the spring while the flowers were blooming.
We set the time as 6:30 or 7, the photog said he will watch the sunset times in the next 2 days to see what would be best.
We decided to start at the dog park so the pooch can get wet and cool down 1st, it'll also be a nice ice breaker because she always brings a smile to anyone's face :)
Afterwards she will be wet so it'll help keep her cool and we will just do US pics after that with her to the side. She would have gotten drooly pretty quickly anyway. So it'll be Redbud Isle, Mayfield Cottage & Gardens then Mt. Bonnel at sunset.

Still wish I had time to lose 5lbs though! lol
