April 2012 Weddings

Stupid vent.

So we're using a signature mat photo frame as our guest book, and I ordered it from David's Bridal and it came in today.  All 1892923938293829382983 pieces of it.  Apparently the UPS driver did cartwheels with it because the glass is totally shattered in the box (like, I couldn't even take it out of the package because it's so bad).  I'm on hold with UPS to see if they'll help me out, since David's says "all sales are final", no matter what condtion the merchandise comes in.

Grrr!  I know I can just go to Michael's and buy glass for it, but it's the principle of the matter!  I didn't pay for broken glass!

Ok, stupid vent over.  On the plus side, my 65 cent stamps came in today too (and those, are intact) :)

Re: Stupid vent.

  • As much as I'm sure you didn't mean for it to, your post made me laugh, about the cartwheels and huge number. haha.

But seriously, yeah that's F-ed up. Someone should take the blame for that. Either David's did not properly protect it with enough padding or protective casing, and perhaps did not include a "fragile" notice, or UPS tossed it around.

I would say if it looks like there is bubble wrap and/or peanuts in the box and it says fragile somewhere on it, then it's UPS's fault. If was not properly protected, then I'd get back on the phone with DB and biitch, because that's not right. They should know to protect a glass item.

  • Oh, it's totally UPS's fault, cause there is mass amounts of bubble wrap and those air pocket protector thingies.  I started a claim with them, and it should work out ok.  I talked with a friend who used to work with UPS customer service and she told me how to make sure they cover the claim.  I was just tired and biitchy last night, and so disappointed when I saw the box and thought "yay!  Another wedding package to open!" and then picked it up and listened to it rattle.  :/

It sounds like it should be covered no problem by UPS, so that's good!

  • Thank goodness! I'm glad they are taking responsibility. Did they say how long the claim could take? Are you going to order another one and they'll reimburse you? Or how does that work?

UPS is usually good about stuff like this.  And just remind them that they were in the news at Christmas for how they manhandled peoples packages

Sooo I finally had some time to talk to both UPS and David's on the phone this morning and got nowhere.   UPS won't take my claim because I'm not the shipper.  WTF?  I talked to a supervisor who told me that the shipper needs to file the claim, not me and that I need to contact the shipper and try and get them to send me a new frame, even though they damaged it.

So I call David's Bridal back, and get a supervisor on the phone.  She tried telling me the whole "all sales are final" crap again, and when I started talking about disputing credit card charges, she agreed to talk to her vendor to see if they would send out a new frame, but they normally don't do that.  When I asked her why I had to pay shipping and handling if I can't make a damage claim, she got mean with me and told me that I acknowleged that all sales are final.  I get that, but I'm not asking to return it, I'm asking for undamaged merchandise.

Sigh.  So I'll wait a couple more days and see what happens, but at this point I'm expecting nothing.  At least the engraved plaque for the frame was separate and undamaged, so I can go buy another frame and put it on there, but I'm so disappointed. And out $60.  I could go dispute the charges, but honestly, there's a lot of other crap to do for the wedding that I don't really have the time/patience to keep fighting everyone about this.

ETA:  My friend, the former UPS employee, is being strangely quiet about the whole thing and ignoring my texts/phone calls/FB messages about the crappy customer service I'm getting from UPS.  Strange.
