Struggling to Find DJ's

I have not found any DJ's who will let you come watch them preform or even seem to have videos of them preforming. Please help. I already have appointments set up with Kirk, Byrne Rock, and Tim but could use a couple more. I would really like to see them preform before we spend a lot of money on someone I do not know will be a good fit for me and my event. Please help!

I highly recommend Joel @ Greenbelt DJ.  He is very professional, has a studio in his home with his entire system set up so you can listen to him...and he also posts on FB where he will be playing so if it's open to the public, you can see him in action.  In addition, his price includes a lot of extras that I found other companies charged for.  I think you will be very happy with him...good luck

I second the PP on Joel at Greenbelt DJ. We are using him for our wedding in September and he seemed like the perfect fit for us.

I don't think most DJ's will allow you to watch them at work, because most of them are working weddings. Wouldn't you be kinda PO'ed if your DJ had people at your wedding scoping out their service? Most DJ's are hired by word of mouth and reviews of work done. There are some who video some of their work, but I would keep in mind that not all weddings are the same, and the crowd can play into whether a DJ is good or not.

I'm using Ross with Look No Further Entertainment.  He's awesome and performs a lot at J Black's downtown, which is where we saw him play.

Apparently not many DJ's out here allow you to come see them preform even though where I grew up, on the east coast, it is extremely common (just like it is common to go see a venue while in use) so it would not bother me to have someone come do that at my wedding so long as the people coming were polite, properly dressed and only stayed for about 3 songs or 15 mins. That way you can see what you would be getting before you paid.
That being said I have resigned myself to the idea that in Texas this is simply something that is not done.

We met with Kirk of Austin Sound Machine who I was a little trepidatious about meeting BUT in person he was exceptionally well spoken and had some really good ideas about how to help motivate people to get up and dance. I was hoping someone who had already used him might have any insights or opinions about him and his style!

I think your best option may be to find a DJ who works clubs.. there are plenty of karaoke dj's that do weddings too.

Are you worried about them being cheesy or something?

I've heard nothing but good reviews about Greenbelt DJ.  We used one of the guys from Complete Music who was great at our wedding (can't remember the specific DJ's name, but he had everyone moving).
