Ugh I'm dealing with the same thing. He just doesn't want one.

Normally I would just let it go and not worry about it, and normally I wouldn't force anything on him that he doesn't want, but the main cake is only one flavor and I want to give the guests at least a choice between two flavors.

So, I'm going to surprise him with one.

Also, I know that his favorite kind of cake is cheesecake, so I'm going to have a cheesecake done for him.

My fiance doesn't want a cake either since he doesn't like cake. We are going to have sugar cookies that are iced to looked like basketballs since he's a basketball coach then put on a tiered pedestal. I also have a friend that is going throught the same ordeal and they are doing a candy bar since her fiance loves sugary candy. I've let my fiance get his way on this since it's the only opinion he has voiced throughout the planning. This is also his day as well. I say do something unique that your guest are sure to remember years from now. Good luck!

nmorton- That's a really good idea. I wish my fiance would want something alternative like that... but he doesn't care about anything like that AT ALL. He just flat out said "do what you're going to do because I honestly do not even care."

It's funny because for every other aspect of the wedding he has pitched in and given his opinion and has been 100% helpful through the whole thing, but about a grooms cake he doesn't care.

I went to a wedding that served the grooms favorite dessert - apple pie and small cups of Amy's vanilla ice cream. Wow that that a hit. So much cake was left over.

Groom's cakes can be anything that the groom loves ranging from a sport's team to a hobby. Ours is going to be an ice chest filled with bottles of Shiner. So excited to see both of our cakes! :)

A groom's cake is a southern tradition and just meant to be fun. Ice cream, cookies, pie, etc... it can be anything! If you are really just concerned about having another flavor of cake, don't over think it... just get another cake in a different flavor.

I have made grooms cakes ranging from cheesecakes, to pumpkin pie, to actual cake...if he really doesn't care just kinda watch or think about what "sweet" he eats the most and go in that direction.  If he doesn't really eat cake that much talk to your baker about making your cake a little bigger and adding a second flavor to that!  I have a bride in June that is doing her wedding cake and then having a candy table with little sweets and treats on it!  There are a lot of different options to add a little something else without having a grooms cake...if I can help you with any other ideas let me know - jen@mycakeworld.com! good luck girl!

We're not having a grooms cake. There will be my cake and we're having a dessert bare with creme bruele, cake balls, smores, and a cookie tray. I'm so looking forward to the food :)

I think the main reason to have a groom's cake is to provide your guests with another option for dessert besides the wedding cake.  So if you're serving other kinds of dessert anyways and FI doesn't want a cake, just skip it.  Otherwise, just a basic chocolate cake is always a good "groom's" cake (it doesn't need to be anything fancy).

Yup, same for me; my fiance isnt huge on desserts but he still likes them. After we were quoted $750-$1k for his groom cake we opted to have tiers of Round Rock Donuts instead, his favorite :)
