Texas-Austin

Apartment search

FI and I are from Austin but we are currently living in Ithaca, NY. We're moving back to Austin in June and we're looking for an apartment. It's been really frustrating so far because we are conducting the search from New York. Anyone have apartment recs they would like to share? We're looking for a 1 bedroom under $700 in North Austin...

We would prefer W/D in unit rather than just connections, but we're flexible.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'd say look in the Far West Neighborhood. There are lots of apartments, mostly college and grad students. All your necessities (Grocery, Liquor store, post office, library, etc) are all within walking distance, and its a pretty safe neighborhood. I own a condo there, so I'm a bit biased, though.

There are also lots of nice looking apartments in the Wells Branch area. Its north on Mopac. There are newer ones on Shoreline Dr. that a friend of mine lives in and loves. There are also some nice ones right on Wells Branch. Its easy access to Mopac and I35 there.

Aroboretum area in Austin is beautiful - hills, greenery, shopping, Domain, very very close to Mopac and 183 (major highways). I like the Far West area too, but there are a alot of students int hat area. Arboretum is definitely more young professionals. This is in Northwest Austin, 78759 zipcode, 10 miles from downtown Austin.
We live in the Madison at Arboretum apartments, and there are are few more apartment complexes in the area that i am pretty sure you can find rent <$700 - like Arboretum Oaks, Arboretum at Stonelake, Northwest Hills, Mesa Verde, Tramor at the Hills, Hard Rock Canyon, etc. Maybe, these could help get you started. Also, the apartment company that owns our apartment complex is Northland.com. We have lived in their complexes for almost four years, and I think they are reasonable prices, and are a very decent management company, that responds to residents' needs/requests. IF you look on their website, and search for apartment communities in Austin, they have at least 12-14 properties around Austin, with 5-6 properties being in the Arboretum area. I am not sure what kind of palce you guys are looking for, but I hoep this helps out a little bit! :-)

Try contacting Paul Gonzales with Lone Star Realty here in Austin. He's really great and I've used his locationg services the last few times I've moved. He always knows what specials are going on where and can get you a great apartment for that rate in that part of town. Goood Luck!

I would definitely use an apartment locator as well; they are free and can email you specials and links to view photos and 360 degree tours and such.

I just moved into my current apartment about 5 months ago and have had zero complaints about it, I'm pretty sure I looked at over 50 apartment complexes on the north side of town before deciding. The Lodge at Lakeline are technically Cedar Park, but they are right next to Lakeline Mall and near the 45/183 intersection so super easy to get anywhere. To me they were the best deal, I liked how the interior looked and they are pretty big, over 800 sq ft. for a one bedroom with full size washer and dryer, was going for $574 when I moved in but I heard a neighbor say she got hers for $560 about a month ago. I know there is also The Lodge at Stone Oak Ranch near Parmer/Mopac, they are a different management company so I can't say if they are good in that area, they also don't allow pets over 25lbs so that ruled them out for me.

Like I said, I looked at TON's of complexes so if you have questions about others I'd be happy to let you know my opinion if you are wondering about any.
