Who knows anything about the Allan House, and The Mansion?

Hey ladies-

Do any of you know anything about the Allan House or The Mansion? We are looking at these two venues and just wanted to get a review on them before booking. Thanks!

You will get lots of comments. Because I think there are many Allan House brides. I looked at both - my only comment on that the Allan house has poor rain plan and that fact that the tables have to bet set up along the edges and they have to flip the facility from ceremony to reception. I would worry too much about the weather and timing.  I simply could not add that stressor to the day.

Ok thanks. We aren't doing our ceremony there, so at least that's good.

The mansion is really pretty but parking for your guest is pretty horrible!

I looked at the Allan House. Love the atmosphere of it with being down town. It's really pretty! I also was concerned about the rain plan. With 150 guests there's no way we could squeeze into the house. And the parking situation is a bit of a pain, but there are some parking lots you can rent on your own.  On the plus side, you have the full day to set up (unlike our public venue where we have 1 1/2 hours to set up) and the girls are super helpful. The porches are perfect for little sitting areas and photography.

    Awesome thanks.

About the rain plan, they said they have a tent they set up so that we could do it in December in the garden. Was this not an option when you looked?

It had to be rented and you had to decide in advance when I was looking at it. Maybe that has changed.

My wedding was at The Mansion (I assume you are refering to the Women's Federation of Texas HQ).  Very easy to deal with the venue manager, who was very flexible (we could even set up the night before since there wasn't another event).  And, you can rent tables and chairs from there at a lower price than most rentals charge.  And, finally, the venue looks beautiful at night.

Please let me know if you have any specific questions I can answer.

We are doing both our ceremony and our reception at the Allan House next fall. We wanted something with outdoor/indoor facilities, close to downtown (the majority of our guests are from out of town and will not rent cars), wanted to be able to bring in the caterer and vendors of our choice, and we liked the unique feel/historical charm (without being cheesy) of the Allan House. Just to clarify on the tent rentals (you can find this on their website under "events and specials"), Allan House provides a winter tenting setup at no charge between the months of Dec. - Feb. with a heated, clear tent built specifically for their outside space. Normally, it's about $2250 for the tent (and we're putting down a "rain plan" deposit of 50% of this just to have it on deck in case of bad weather. Hopefully we won't have to use it!) So, if you are thinking Dec. garden wedding, you'd be getting a pretty sweet deal on the tent since it will already be set up. Flip side is, if the weather is hot, you'll be stuck with a tent in the outside space. : )
