alcohol at the reception...

we're not doing a complete open bar, but we're providing beer and wine for approximately 120 people drinking.any ideas on how much to buy? we actually have to get it from the brewery at the reception site, but i just wanted to get an idea of how much money i need to set aside.any suggestions?

we just did beer and wine too. And had about 120 at our reception too.We purchased 24 bottles of wine and had 15 left over. We purchased two kegs and had a keg left over... The groomsmen bought the kegs - so no idea no $$. I spent around $330 for wine, if I remember correctly.

We just had 2 kegs for about 100 people, sadly I have no idea how much was left over, but they were $95 a piece. But I think 2 kegs would be plenty. Cant help with the wine though.

I would plan for 3 drinks per person (but you know your crowd - if they are non-drinkers vs drinkers, etc adjust from there).  Bottles of wine yeild about 4 glasses and a keg yeilds (15.5 gallons) about 200-220 12oz cups.We are doing a full bar and my bartender hooked me up with a great list of to serve about 100 guest.  If you want to email me at shakd1217@yahoo.com I will gladly share it with you.

I think it really dpeends on how much your crowd drinks. I know we had 2 kegs, and I think we had 1 case each of red, white, white zin and champagne. The wine ran out about 3/4 through the night, and then both of our kegs were almost all the way gone by the end. Our reception was about 3 1/2 hours long and there were probably 115 people there. I would say most people drinking had a minimum of 3 drinks, and probably 85-90% of the people were drinking at ours, but DH's family are really big drinkers as well as most of our friends, so we know we would have to plan accordingly. The bartender tried to originally order us 1 keg, 2 cases of red & white zin and 1/2 cases of white and champagne, and I am so glad we upped everything or we would have run out 1/2 way through the reception.

We only provided beer, champagne, and jager for 200 people. We bought 2 keg, 4 cases of champagne, and 4 bottles of jager. Beer was gone, jager gone, still had a case and a half of champagne!

I don't post on this site much. I grew up in Oklahoma but moved to TX, but I still like to come here and see what you ladies are doing!But this was the topic of one of our threads a few months ago and a knottie posted this link. You can enter the number amount of guests you have, what you are serving, and how heavy of drinkers they are and it will figure out about how much you need. It does tend to be a bit on the high side.
