Addressing the invites

How is everyone addressing the envelopes?  Is it Mr. and Mrs. Jay Smith, is it Mr. and Mrs. Smith?  I am not sure on how it's supposed to go.  Thanks ladies!

I personally did Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I don't/won't like being referred to as Mrs. Scott HisLastname, because I have my own first name, but I know this is totally etiquette acceptable and I know a lot of people will do it throughout my life.

It's really a personal choice. Either is technically ok. If your wedding is more formal/traditional, I would do the husband's firstname.

  • Em...PHEWWW!!  I feel the same exact way as you.  I don't like to be called after someone else's name when I have my own.  I might not even change my name because I like to have my own identity...we'll see what happens with that.  Anyway, thanks for clarifying this so that I feel more comfortable sending it out reading "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."  Thanks again!

As for the escort cards, are they going to read "Mr. and Mrs. Smith as well?  I am afraid that if there are two "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" 's that they'll be a confusion.  What do you do at that point?  Write first initial of husband?

<div>At that point, yes, I think it would be wise to include the husband's first name. Or you could do Mary and Joe Smith, then Susan and Bob Smith, if you don't want to use titles on the escort cards, but again I'd say this is based on the formality of youe wedding/reception. </div>
