Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

give away the bride

I have chosen to walk down the aisle alone, reserving that space next me for my dad who passed away many years ago. As part of the ceremony, I'd like to have the community of guests in attendance give me away as a whole. I've been doing some research, but with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas on how best to word this for the ceremony?

Re: give away the bride

  • Thanks everyone. I will be walking down the aisle alone. And there will be a candle lit, and a moment recognizing that candle as the representation of all those who can't be with us. Here is the wording my fiance and I ultimately decided for the "giving away" part of our ceremony.
Doubly blessed is the couple which comes to the marriage altar with the approval and blessings of their families and friends. As we gather here to join Christopher and Leslie in marriage, it is fitting that you, their families and friends, be here to witness and to participate in their wedding, for the ideals, the understanding, and the mutual respect which they bring to their marriage have their roots in the love, friendship, support and guidance you have given them. This couple will continue to need your love and support in the future, not only on this special day. Do you now offer your support and best wishes for this couple, wishing them the best of lives together? If so, please answer "We do.”
