Plus Size Dress Shopping

Hey Ladies, I haven't been on The Knot all summer since I took a planning vacay, but I am getting back into everything by trying to look for my dress. Can anyone recommend a good bridal solon that has plus size samples in stock to try on? I went to Davi'ds bridal this weekend and even though they have a ton of dresses to order in larger sizes they don't have ton of variety in store. I found one dress that I actually love there, but I couldn't try it on cause they only had a sample in size 12. Plus they will only order a dress if you buy it and I would like to avoid picking out a dress only by holding it up to my body. I'm a size 18-20 and know I need a dress size 22 cause of them running small. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

I got lucky at Adrian Pierce, they had a decent amount of plus size samples.  They're closing like next week I think, though, so that might not be an option for you.  Which David's did you go to?  I went to the one in Maple Shade and they had almost every one that I liked in a size I could try on.

I went to the one in Deptford. I will have to check out the Maple Shade store and see if they have a wider selection! The dress i love is one of the Oleg Cassini's so i don't expect them to have more then one or two in store, but if i could at least try more then 3 dresses on that would be great! I just found out about Adrian Pierce like a week ago so I am defiantly going to try there this weekend, fingers crossed they have stuff left.

Kristy is right; I tried on 3 plus-sized dresses that I liked at the Maple Shade David's, but eventually I threw caution to the wind and purchased 4 (yes, 4, I'm crazy) dresses on Ebay until I found "The One."  However, I spent less on 4 gowns than most women spend on one at a bridal shop!  Luckily, I was able to sell 2 of them back on Ebay, but I'm still left with an extra dress.  Ironically, it's a brand-new with no tags Oleg Cassini gown, size 22, off-shoulder, white.  It's too small on me (I usually wear regular size 22-24), and would need to be let out and more for me to wear it.  But it might fit you.  Would you be interested, Meri?  If so, please email me at musicheals71 at aim dot com.  I live in Mays Landing, but I'm willing to travel anywhere in South Jersey.Jody

I got my dress at Cove Bridal in Pennsauken. I cannot be happier with my experience with them. They had a bunch of dresses and it is a small shop so I was never fighting for the sales associate's attention. I found my dream dress there and then found it in a store in Philly for like $300 less. We called Cove and they price matched it for us. I did not experience any stress when it came to my dress.

I know its a bit of drive but there are Alfred Angelo stores in Lancaster and Allentown, PA.  They have most of their dresses in every size to try on in store and their prices are very reasonable (a little more than Davids but still under $1000 for most of them).  We used Cove Bridal for my BM dresses after my sister had a great experience using them 4 years ago.  While the new owner is very nice she messed up on the sizes for all 5 girls=expensive alterations.  She may be better with bridal gowns.

Irma's has tons of dresses and tons in plus sizes I was able to try any style I wanted. She is also really good at telling what will look good on. GL

I second Irma' Bridal in Cherry Hill.  They are so sweet there and they know their stuff and are not rude like some other places I went too.

i went up to kleinfelds in manhatten and although they dont have plus sizes in the store i reccomend going there if you cant find anything because the first dress i tried on was the dress. they have so many dresses there that it is impossible not to find the dress you want!

Jay West in Haddonfield has a plus size section.  I found my dress at Exquisite Bride in Princeton- it's a bit of a ride from SJ area but it feels like the Bridal Garden without the snottyness... They had at least 10  designer dresses in plus sizes.  Alterations included in price!I'm an 18-20 and I was able to get a lot of non plus dresses (without zipping) on at least to get an idea if I liked it at every store. Good luck
