Shoe dyeing

I have no idea how to spell that!
Anyway... has anyone had GOOD experiences with shoe dyeing?  I am considering getting a pair dyed in red but last time I dyed shoes they ran and I had turquoise feet.

Also- anyone know anywhere that dyes shoes?  The only places I've found will only dye them if you buy them there... I have a pair I bought online ($30 cheaper than in the store) but I can't seem to find anywhere to dye them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The last shoe I had dyed was in high school, which was more than 10 years ago.  I didn't have a good experience with them (because when they get wet from rain, grass, sweat, etc they do run).  I'm sure things have changed since my last pair.

The only store I can think of that does dyeable shoes is payless.

That was exactly my experience (except it was more than 10 years ago!)

When I was considering this, I called around to a few shoe stores- ones that had listings that said they repair shoes and whatnot.  A lot of those places did dyeing.  I feel like some of the older shoes stores/family owned type places do this.

On another note, Nina shoes now allows you to customize some of their styles in many different shades, plus you can get blue soles, which would be cute (depending upon the color of the actual shoes) as a "something blue".  Completely unrelated, but I wanted to share!

    Good luck!

I got married in November and had my shoes dyed ivory to match the exact color of my dress and took them to Treasures By Trish on the Blackhorse Pike in Runnemede.  I believe it was $10 to have them dyed.  I know they'll dye shoes there too that weren't bought at the store or, at least they did when I had mine dyed in the fall.  GL!

As a mother of the bride, I purchased my shoes and pocketbooks at a cost of $230.00 at Treasures by Trish. After purchasing the shoes, I returned a few days later with the shaws that matched my gowns, so they could "match" the color of the shoe to the gown. (I was wearing two gowns to my daughters wedding, one in the a.m.,one in the evening, one gown was champagne, one was navy blue). They told me the shaws were "not good enough" and they needed both my gowns. When I asked if they would sign a waiver being responsible for my gowns, in case something happened to my dresses while in their care, they said "No". I did not feel comfortable leaving both my gowns there, especially when they said they would not be responsible for them. They then said, they would dye the shoes according to the shawl but ONLY if I SIGNED A WAIVER, saying I would accept "whatever color the shoes turned out to be"!! Interesting how they would not sign a waiver but wanted me to sign a waiver!  I also called the stores where I had purchased my MOB gowns (as they had recommended Treasures by Trish) and told them of this and they said they had never heard of such a thing and for me to definitely NOT leave my gowns with anyone who would not be responsible for them. Go elsewhere!!

I found a little treasure of a store for dyeing shoes.  It is called The Shoe Horn at 175 Rt. 70, Medford, NJ.  Since my nasty experience at Trish's in Runnemede, I was thrilled with this store that provided such exceptional customer service. "Mr. Ed" is a lovely, older gentlemen and when I told him of my experience, he was also quite shocked to think that they would need my gowns to dye my shoes. He looked at my shawls and said he would have no problem with the navy blue gown. He showed me a color chart and he and I picked out the color. (I was never shown a color chart at Trish's.) However, my champagne gown is actually a champagne/blush/peachy/rose color. Mr. Ed went beyond expectations with customer service. He said since this was a harder color to match, he told me he would mix up three or four colors and then the following week I could come back and we would pick out one of the colors before he would dye my shoes. When I went back the following week he had the samples ready and was kind enough to take me outside of the store to show me how the color changed somewhat in the sunlight (who does this in today's world?). We then decided on a color and when I returned the following week both pair of shoes were beautiful...plus he had dyed a pocketbook for me, which also looked fabulous.  Each pair of shoes and the pocketbook were $25.00 each for the dye. I would highly recommend Mr. Ed at The Shoe Horn on Rt 70. Keep in mind, so you don't miss it, that the store is tucked away in a shopping center.
