Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

Has anyone had 2 officiants?

So Fl and I would like both of our pastors (we currently go to different churches) to marry us.  We haven't asked them yet because we'd like to get some sort of idea of how both would do it before proceeding.

Any ideas?

TIA.

Re: Has anyone had 2 officiants?

  • I have been to a wedding where this was done and it was actually a dual-faith ceremony.  The bride was Pyrsbeterian (spelling lol) and the groom was Catholic.  I thought they arranged it so it flowed very nicely and showed their unqiue but common faiths blending!  They didn't explain their choice in the ceremony and I think if they would have that would have made it awkward. I say go for it as long as the officiants are comfortable with it!

  • I went to a wedding where there were two pastors there - the bride's and the groom's. (Both Protestant, although they may have been different denominations.) The bride's pastor spoke briefly about love and marriage, and described how he'd seen the bride grow up over the years, and gave a blessing to them both. The groom's pastor actually performed the ceremony, iirc. I think they were getting married in the groom's church? It didn't seem weird at all, just cool to know that they were able to involve a pastor who had a close relationship with the bride.

  • someone I know has also had two pastors perform there wedding ceremony... I would say give it a go, it changes things up to keep your family and friend engaged. As for what each pastor should say, it is really a personal preference.
  • They could both MC the ceremony, however only one of them can actually complete the marriage license.
