Cake topper?

Hi ladies!!

So, what is everyone doing for their cake topper? (Where did you get it and how much?)  Or maybe you've decided to not have one at all? I'd love to hear all about it! I started "googling" around and was quite horrified on how expensive they can get.

I'm using fresh hydrangeas to top the cake.  Here's my cake inspiration, except mine will be round:

I'm going to use our last name initial as our cake topper - I'd really like it to be in Swarovski Crystals...but it's pretty disturbing how expensive they can get. I found one for $100 (cheapest I found thus far) and I guess I might end up going with that...but what a waste. The only good thing is the posts are removeable so I will probably display it somewhere in our home after the wedding.

VERY pretty! Ours will be a 4 tier round w/ the top tier raised... with the swiss dots, border along each tier (forget what they call it), and just a few small clusters of pale buttercream flowers.  I've been thinking of using the initial of our last name, as the topper. I"m seeing all sorts of really cute ones, but not in the price range I think is worth spending. Is the fresh flower topper reasonable?

Yes, sounds like we're in the same boat! I found a website in my search last night. (<a href="http://lunabellboutique.com/item_1847/CC--Lettered-Rhinestone-Crystal-Cake-Toppers.htm" rel="nofollow">http://lunabellboutique.com/item_1847/CC--Lettered-Rhinestone-Crystal-Cake-Toppers.htm</a>) I plan on calling tomorrow during their business hours for more information. Their prices seem more reasonable. The medium sized victorian mirror toppers start at $9. I personally like the one that is shown in the main picture, with the small cluster of rhinestones in the corner.

Michael's also sells monogram cake toppers for a reasonable price, plus they always have coupons.

I am buying hydrangeas in bulk from <a href="http://www.bjswholesale.com/">www.bjswholesale.com</a>, 26 stems for $60, so after using them for my CPs, I will have enough left over to top the cake.

I had my florist add some orchids (which were also in my bouquet).

    Non-pro pic...

[QUOTE]delia, Those ones are also available on TK store. <a href="http://weddingshop.theknot.com/weddingwarehouse/ProductPage.aspx?scId=Cake%20Toppers%28KnotShop%29&pId=P2129%28KnotShop%29&cId=Reception%28KnotShop%29&cTypF=" rel="nofollow">http://weddingshop.theknot.com/weddingwarehouse/ProductPage.aspx?scId=Cake%20Toppers%28KnotShop%29&pId=P2129%28KnotShop%29&cId=Reception%28KnotShop%29&cTypF=</a> I got the mirrored ones from TK store and added my own crystals to keep it cheap. <a href="http://weddingshop.theknot.com/weddingwarehouse/ProductPage.aspx?scId=Cake%20Toppers%28KnotShop%29&pId=P1967%28KnotShop%29" rel="nofollow">http://weddingshop.theknot.com/weddingwarehouse/ProductPage.aspx?scId=Cake%20Toppers%28KnotShop%29&pId=P1967%28KnotShop%29</a>

Thank you so much for the link! I think I will be ordering the mirrored topper tonight and add my own rhinestones. I have some already w/ the adhesive on the back of them, (I use them in my scrapbooks...)  is this what you used or did you buy loose rhinestones and apply w/ a hot glue gun?

I bought loose ones and stuck them on with All-purpose craft glue, but the self-adhesive ones would work too,  They came out nice.

Your cake looked beautiful! Nice job on the cake topper.

I'm thinking of just doing one big "M" for our last name. Have you seen them done that way?
