Just came back from the Merion tasting

Hello Everybody!

I just came back from my tasting at the Merion...it was soooo good!! My fiance and I as well as our parents were sooo pleased with everything! We also got a chance to speak with our coordinator Cathy who is so sweet. So far, I have to say we are really happy with our service (knock on wood)

Our selections:
Chicken-We tried the oscar and the champagne chicken...we were going to go with the oscar which was wonderful but one of the owners came by who is Greek as are we and suggested the Athenian Chicken which was GREAT so we are going with the Athenian

Beef-We had the Chateubriand(sp) and the Filet Mignon...Both were fantastic! We went with the filet but the other is really good too!

Fish- We tried the Chilean Sea Bass and the Halibut...the Chilean Sea Bass was wonderful so we are going with that...the Halibut was ok; halibut is a bit of a bland fish for my taste in general but had great sides of shrimp, clams, and risotto.

Great time, great drinks.

    Glad you had such a great time...we have our tasting on sunday....if i dont kill the folks at Seaview (see PP)...im hoping it will go fantastic!!

    Glad to hear your tasting went well. I have had the Sea Bass there before and it is amazing!!  I want to do my tasting in either Sept or Oct but I'm waiting to hear from my coordinator. Did you do your cake yet?

    No I didn't do the cake yet, maybe in August...we did the tasting kind of early because my parents are going to Greece in August and my FI's parents are going to Greece in September so we did it now. Cathy said we have to make an appt for a cake tasting at some place in Philadelphia..she will email me the info

    The bakery for the cake tasting is Isgro in Philly.  The number Cathy gave me is 215-923-3092.... we have our cake tasting on the 27th.  I think I'm more excited about that than I was for the food tasting! 

    Marian, how did you like the champagne chicken?  We didn't try it at our tasting but we're still undecided on a chicken dish and Cathy recommended it.

    Hey Jaymee,
    We weren't crazy about the champagne chicken...a bit too much spinach for our taste...not enough chicken. We really liked the Oscar and the Athenian

    We went to a wedding there last fall and the food was incredible...especially the appetizers and deserts.  If we weren't so poor we'd be having our reception there.

    I went the same night, and it was great! We are going with the Filet Mignon, Chicken Francaise, and the Chilean Sea Bass.  I don't eat seafood, so I don't know, but my dad and fiance weren't crazy about the sauce/toppings on top of the sea bass, but really liked the fish.  What did everyone else think?

    For this November, in the Empire or Palazzo it was $144.46pp, and for the Skylight or Palace, it was $160pp

    I haven't done my cake tasting yet, but my parents ordered Isgro's Pastries for our engagement party.  We got a TON of compliments on the pastries, so I am super excited for the cake.

    Glad to hear the tasting went well!!!  I can't wait for ours!

    I looooved the topping on the Chilean Sea Bass so I guess it is all a matter of opinion

    I'm glad to hear that.  Both my fiance and father are very plain eaters, so I was hoping I couldn't trust their judgement!!
