Unity Sand Ceremony

My FI and I have opted to do a unity sand ceremony versus the traditional candle ceremony.  Should it be handled the same way that candle ceremonies are?   The mothers are the ones who usually light the individual candles for this, should the mothers also start the sand ceremony,  by pouring a little bit of each color sand in the vase?  Or does the bride and groom just do it themselves? PLEASE HELP MY WEDDING IS IN 25 DAYS!!!! AHHHHHHH.

Re: Unity Sand Ceremony

  • It's whatever you want to do.
  • You can also research online to find suggestions.  I've never seen the mothers start the sand or anything.  But if you wanted them to participate, maybe when they come in they bring the bottles of sand to the table?  Like if they went up to light the candle...
  • Sand Ceremony can be started or ended by the Bride and Groom both holding a container of colored sand to pour into a special container followed by the family. Remember, that it is your special day and you can personalize the ceremony according to your belief:-)

  • Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I appreciate them all!
  • We've decided to include our mothers.  It was something important to us to include them in our ceremony.  They each have their own color and each will pour a foundation of sand for us just as they've given us a foundation for who we are today.  I have the wording for our sand ceremony if you're interested, but as PP mentioned, it's about what's important to you and your FI.  Do whatever makes you comfortable.  There's not a "right" or "wrong" way. :)  Enjoy!!!

  • On the left, under all the message board titles you'll see a tab that says Private Messages.  It's in there.  :)  Let me know if you can't find it :)
  • I have seen it done both ways you can do which is more your style if your mothers are going to be a major part of your lives after the wedding I would let them and the mothers may choose not to want to do it also it is all up to you.
