Anyone around?

This board needs to liven up haha. What's everyone up to?

Re: Anyone around?

  • FI just left for an LTP thing for the week in Louisiana... I'm being really productive and playing on pinterest and watching Sister Wives. Kind of a lame evening... maybe I'll open a beer and turn up the Lady GaGa and have a party!
  • Hahaha I'm on pinterest and watching Grey's Anatomy. I'm avoiding doing stuff for my online class. We have a big group project due the day the class ends and no one's really doing anything :/

I just got "home" and it is sooo weird. It just feels like it finally hit me. H is gone for a long time. I am really numb to the idea. Fcuk this! I want off this rollercoaster! I imagine this is how bipolar feels? Happy, sad.....mad....sad...happy. Ugh! But. I just wanted to say...i love you ladies.. i joined a bigger military spouse forum...but they are all butterflies and rainbows over there. I need people to tell it like it is and not cover it with unicorn poop. Edit fcuk u tk mobile..i wasn't ready to post. I have no internet or cable in my apartment. I turned it off before I left and I don't want to turn on for 2 weeks well I'm at the old apartment. Can I wait to get to my new place! And have internet again!

  • I'm at work. Our digital charting is down for the next 36 hours. I'm pretty sure I'll have to be admitted to the hospital for a change in mental status before this is over.

  • Amanda I was the exact same way. I'd be like fcuk this one day and I can do it the next day. It fucking blew.
  • Hello hello hello! Hear that? TK is so empty these days, it's echoing! Tongue Out

I'm kinda around. Just got done baking/making goodies and prepareing H's first care package. I want it to get to him by the 4th of July so hopefully it makes it there! The cakes in a jar I made are 4th of July themed.

Amanda: Since your thread got eaten by hugry TK, just wanted to tell ya, pretty sure our Hs are in the same strike group. Small world eh?
  • I'm here.  I worked early this morning at the golf course.  We had a tournament going on so it was super busy.
Also, I got made fun of by two teens that work there.  They asked me if I thought YOLO was cool and I was like YELLOW?!  and they were like NO, YOLO!  and I was like what's YOLO.  They said I was showing my age b/c 1. I didn't know what YOLO was and 2. b/c I can't hear.  They didn't even tell me what it meant.  I had to google it.
Then I came home to a destroyed house!  I guess my dog was mad that I left!!  I have little flower pots in my windows and she knocked 2 of them down .  My hair dryer was on the floor turned on! (WTF?!) and all kinds of things knocked off of counters and my dresser.  She's always so good, but then she has these bratty moments.  Guess I'll have to start kenneling her again.

But now, I am bored.... also on pinterest and on barnesandnoble.com seeing if there are any books that I want to purchase for my nook :)  any suggestions?

Yes! I saw that and tried to reply. I'm pretty sure they are too...most of the ships that they were going out with were from your neck of the woods...I wondered when you talked about the deployment if they were going out together.

Strike group sounds so Bad Asssss. Just try and fcuk with those suckers. Haha.

  • Hello. I just bought my first set of golf clubs! YAY for hobbies! H took me out today for the first time (lol at that because it was SUPPOSED to be what we did on our first date! Now over 3 years later...)

Anyway, I did pretty good for my first time, so H jumped at the chance at buying me a set! I am pretty excited. I love that we'll be able to do that together, and man, it's quite a work out! We also went out on a family friends ranch and picked a bunch of veggies and fruit. Pretty active day!
  • CAB - Golf is fun and whether you're playing 9 or 18 it's awesome quality time as well :) .  what kind of clubs did you get?  Glad you enjoyed it!!!  Hobbies are great :)

CAB, MH has been promising to take me golfing since like freshman year of highschool...before we started dating which is over a decade ago at this point as well. I have yet to golf lol. One of my coworkers goes on Wednesday's and she offered to take a few of us so we can get good and beat our husbands lol.

  • GG- feel better!

Amanda- after the first month or so the days will seem like they just fly by.  I never thought I would say that but they really do.  Something that helped me was putting in terms of the school calender.  For example semesters and summer sessions.  I work in higher education so that really helped me out. See saying "H will be going two semesters and a summer" sounds so much better than "H will be gone a year."  (Of course this is just an example)

Kara- that sounds like a fun package.

CAB- H has tried to get me into golf but no such like.  I do however like driving the cart and drinking beer. hAA
  • Crown - I totally used that logic with H before he left... It will be like  a semester and a half...well once school start in a month....  Or more like I move...football season....Christmas...H's Birthday and then he comes home.

    BAM.

Ugh I'm in the opposite boat--every time we're near a sporting goods store I drag H in "just to look" at clubs but he's not biting....and I hate golfing by myself because you always get stuck with randos and then I get freaked out. Keep it up Cab, it's one of those sports where it's pretty easy to get "good enough" and then it's fun for a lifetime!

  • I'm still in bed....thank God for TK mobile! (Even when it tries to capitalize everything I type) I'm a little confused at this point...I realized that FI is in a real time crunch as far as civilian job and the Army. :/ The police academy runs seven months and then he recieved word that he is set to deploy sometime next year as well. This makes me really nervous, I really don't want the two to overlap...Idk what the police department would do.                                                                                                                            Being in the dark about these things sucks. :/ I wish they'd give him his official orders already.

Yea, when you were talking about it being in the news I wondered if it was the same group as H... It was all over the news for being the "Longest navy deployment since 2002"... ugh...greeaaattt. lol

How long does it normally take for care packages to get there? I need to get my butt in gear to send him a "'Merica" one....ha

I know! I am not nearly as sad as I used to get from just visiting a weekend. At that point it was saddness from the unknown of seeing him again...we didn't know when we would get the chance (money) to spend on just a weekend.  But now I know... X many months... he is home. i WILL see him then.  Even though it is 10x longer than between  the weekened trips, for some reason I am handling it a lot better.

  • Kelty, I got the Callaway Top Flite set:

    I'm so effin excited!

Crown, that is for sure an added benefit! LOL! I think the only reason I like it is because I was able to hit some decent shots with my H's clubs on my first time out. He and some other people got all impressed with me that it got to my head LOL!

Sammy, get on that! It's fun! And a good workout. I am freakin SOAR today! We're going again next Sunday. Hopefully my set comes before then. It should... btw, we got it for a steal! I was so anxious that we got online the minute we got home and bought that set.

    And, just for Geegs, BOOBIES.

<div>Haha. Yeah this deployment definitely takes the cake for us, longest one ever, just hopefully they don't make any more extensions. Although from now on, this length of deployment will be the standard for the Navy. </div><div>
</div><div>Is this your first deployment with him? The closer they are to home the sooner the package can get there, that's why I sent mine already. Just got back from the post office actually. Normally it takes 2-4 weeks(fastest I've ever had though was 1 week)  to get there but there are times when it can take for up to 2-3 months, or even more! Supplies are first priority, so mail gets bumped down. </div>
  • Kara - yes.. it is our first deployment. I think it is pretty awesome though, it wasn't the typical reaction, but as much as I want him home, he has a job to do...I'd be pretty mad if he made me feel guilty about doing my job so I try and not  complain about it. He mentioned that some of the guys feel so guilty about leaving their familes and I think that is setting up for a pretty long and terrible deployment.

  • Amanda: Well that's good that you seem to be taking it well, I know a lot of women are pretty much on a breakdown til now. Just because the guys are feeling a little guilty though doesn't mean it's a set up for a terrible deployment. My H usually feels guilty whenever he has to leave, no matter it's a short underway or a long deployment. He always feels bad about having to leave me again, since we've been at it so many times. Like he said, we maybe "pros" at it but that doesn't mean it makes it any easier. I'm sure your H feels a little bad about having to leave too especially since you just got married.

Oh, that came out wrong!  I meant the wives of some of the guys were making them feel terribly guilty about leaving. Not even just "Oh I am so sad you are gone"... but pure resentment and wanting them to feel awful.  But on the other hand...meeting some of the "couples" H works with...it looked like we are the only  "healthy" relationship in the det. Some of the other couples are just toxic...

I know H feels terrible about leaving me...but I don't remind him that it is an awful situation and biiitch and moan about how terrible it is (at least not to him!). Ya know?

ETA - I also want to mention, I think there is a big difference between being expressing your sadness and sending them on a guilt trip. You need to express your saddness for sure...H and I need to support each other in that way. But making them feel terrible for leaving is not needed.

  • I'm here, stressing the hell out...
DH and I are planning our "wedding" we did the typical courthouse thing back in Febuary and now we are doing a real wedding with family and friends in two weeks...pretty much a huge light show.....I want to just be done with everything, and apparently we have some friends who didn't realise we were actually married already and are now saying we are just getting married for the upcoming deployment so we can get the money....*smdh* I'm flustered b/c things are falling to crap...for example...my photographer "forgot" when the wedding is so we have noone to do pics....my DJ is having to bring her daughter with her b/c her husband is worthless...and I have family from both sides trying to help from 800+ miles away....I'm just stressed so I am venting....and if anyone understands the stress of a wedding plus deployment stressers on top of it I figured it would be you ladies.

Saying that you did the "typical" courthouse thing makes it seem like everyone in the military JOP's.  This is far from true.  In fact, I'm pretty sure JOP's are the minority.  Also, a lot of ladies here will kind of find it offensive for you to say that you are having your "real wedding" now.  Your JOP/courthouse wedding was your real wedding.  What you are having now is a vow renewal.

To the bolded: this is why we were extremely specific and very vocal about our JOP with our friends and family.  When we had our vow renewal we made sure that our invites specifically said that we were renewing our vows, not to be confused with exchanging them for the first time.  It's kind of hard to let people know you aren't expecting gifts without being tacky but we did our best with that.

I'm sorry you're having such a difficult time but we frequently warn people on here of the difficulties of having a JOP followed by a VR.  This stuff is just kind of a given if you haven't prepared yourself properly or made a valiant effort to ensure your guests have full disclosure.
