Military Brides

Casual Military wedding?

Hi all!  My fiance is an E6 in teh army and he is planning on wearing his dress blues.  The rest of the groomsmen consist of the neighborhood guys we grew up with, none of which are in the service... Yes, we grew up as neighbors! Anyways, I want the bridesmaids to be able to buy sundresses that they would possibly wear again instead of ugly typical dresses that collect dust after.  Also, we are getting married in a barn on the ocean near the Cape.  With this said, would it be odd to have the groomsmen wear navy blazers (to match the dress pants) and khakis when my fiance is in his dress blues?  This way both bridal parties would be somewhat casual but nicely put together.

Thanks!
Courtney

<div>Dress blues are considered formal attire, so the equivalent would be a tux.  Really you can have them wear whatever you want, but that is the true equivalent.</div>

Like beach said, blues are considered formal attire and I personally think it would look weird having the rest of the groomsmen in khakis with the groom in dress blues.  But that is just my opinion...

agreed with beach... IMO i would think it looks really weird... and a little disrespectful because it would feel like you're suggesting that the dress blue isn't that formal...
but it'syour wedding and it's not like the military will fault you for it.

I'm sure there is a less formal option so that your FI can still wear a uniform, and a dressy uniform at that, but that will fit in better if you have your heart set on the khakis. The girls are right though, his dress blues wouldn't really be appropriate since they are for formal wear, and it doesn't seem like your wedding party will be in formal attire... He of course can do whatever he wants.

I think if you wanted him to wear the blues and have it not look strange (IMO) go with a nice suit. This way it is not as formal as a tux but it's still semi formal. Is your dress formal? because I think it would look really weird if the coupld is formal and the party is not. Just saying

I am in a similar situation....I can send you my inspiration board if youd like, it is definitely a work in progress but you can see how I have it set out so I can put different suit pictures next to the dress blues, along with my dress and the girls dresses. I find I have to see it in front of me to keep all my thoughts organized!! :)
