Military Brides

Ahhhh!!!

We've been having our kitchen renovated for the last 3 weeks. It was supposed to take 3 days. We were on week 3 on Monday. It is loud, obnoxious, and terrible for my dust allergies. I've made Hubby promise that if I ever say to him "Honey, Let's renovate the _______" that he will just simply say "No".

And I know it's only 6pm (EST), but I have to be at work at 5 am, and I'm seriously considering going to bed.. like now. Is that sad? Probably...

Anyone doing anything fun? Have any fun stories? I like stories!! Tell me a story!!

Hii!! I did my first assessment today at the new job. It was interesting at least. I'm exhausted. I had a sleepover last night lol. In the new group of friends I made, one of the guys is leaving for Spain soon on a transfer so all the girls and guys crashed at the apt and slept on the floor and had a sleepover. That's right, we're 10 again, and its awesome.

Ugh, that sucks! Sorry it's taking so long! My future in-laws had their kitchen re-done a couple years ago and it took almost 3 months!

No fun stories because I've been on a cleaning spree all day, but my 3-year-old nephew called me on the phone to tell me he loves me so that kind of made my day better. Now I'm waiting to see if FI gets online tonight. Fingers crossed!

My dad works in construction, and he decided to renovate our bathroom once. It was supposed to take a few weeks... and ended up being 6 months. It just kept coming second to jobs that actually paid. On the plus side, it ended up being the nicest room in my parents house, so hopefully your kitchen turns out super awesome to make up for all the frustration!

No fun stories here... Just a day of errands since the man has a night sim, so we were able to spend the day knocking off the to-do list of getting passport/DL, costco, target, michaels, etc...

I've been fighting with direct tv to get someone out here to fix our satellite issues for 4 days. four. days. I'm so pissed. I have been on the phone with them SIX times in four days to yell at them about getting someone out here. "Someone will call you within 20 minutes, I'm so sorry" yeah. what a liar. They never call back.

That sucks! I wouldn't want to be there for it either. I bet it's very loud. I don't have any fun stories to tell. I went back to doing Zumba dance workout this morning though and it was a lot of fun. I missed doing it. Also sent out the first care package for this deployment. H has been wanting me to send it. lol

To distract you Sami, from your horrifi renuvating experience, I found this amusing (accidently ended up on weddingbee while googling a couple wedding things)

Their military board is MUCH different than ours..

Did you notice how everyone on there are calling it their "real" wedding as is the JOP was nothing? Makes me cringe. Ugh. Very different than this MB.

Someone kept telling me that it was "just paperwork".  I said, "That paperwork is our marriage.  One day we'll be unmarried, one day we'll be married.  To me, it's a lot more than just signing some papers.  We're not religious, so there's no 'before the law, then before God'.  It's one day, one thing."  How do these people not get it??? I do understand if someone feels they aren't married 'in God's eyes' how they'd want a religious ceremony.  But... I'm not religious.  Once I'm married, I'm married.  There's no such thing as 'more married.'

Anyway, Sami, one thing to make you smile - you get to meet me soon!!!!!!  I'm in Parris Island now, having lots of fun.  So excited to see my guy!

ewww Parris Island ;) ... You brave woman :P haha When I was dating a Marine, I read a bunch off that list (I forget what it's called, STAN correct me! lol) and am now afraid of that place. O.o haha

yeah we are not religious AT ALL, so we don't get it. People don't take the feds seriously... It makes me extra peeved when MILITARY couples don't.

Ugh I remember when I was growing up my parents had the windows replaced. It was so loud that I could hear it through earplugs, and I was only twelve and it was during the Summer so I was pretty much stuck at home.

But atleast you'll have a brand new kitchen! And Rue La La is having an awesome sale on Kitchen Aid mixers if you want to check it out for your new kitchen :)

Parris Island isn't bad if you're not a recruit!  The area's really pretty, Savannah's a short drive away and a great little city.  The BOQ is pretty much a shitty motel, but the homes that FI's colleagues are renting in the area (who are here longer than 3 months) are absolutely gorgeous!  So BAH goes a long way towards quality of life here.

Lulu, we're definitely convinced we'd be happy to live here!  I'm told the base school is crap, and the local public schools are crap, but it doesn't seem like that would be a worry for you for at least 5 years or so!!!  It's very quiet and people are super friendly.  It would be a great place to have a young family!

The law depot is really close knit, too.  Very nice people, and they do group things like PT sessions together (more than what's required) and have a softball team.  They deal with some fun stuff, FI tells me, and is really active as they handle all matters related to recruiting on the East Coast (recruiters sleeping with high school recruits, DI's taking it too far, etc.)

Lulu, think you have enough baby countdowns?  Congratulations BTW, because I don't think I ever said it.  But holy bajeezus, how many countdowns do you need?

C- yay for seeing your FI!  Glad you're enjoying it.

And I'm still boycotting all of this get together talk.

If you guys were getting together while I was living in VA, I'd be all over it.  It's definitely a litlte too far for me to make it now though.

Also, FTR, I'm pretty anti multiple tickers/countdowns in any form.  TN kills me because tons of posters have like 3 and 4, for how long they've been married, how old their kids are, how long since their last bowel movement, etc.  I know, I know, I'm a bitter old hag. Also, the fetus cell development tickers just freak me out.

Oh, Sami, I feel your renovations are hell pain. FI has been renovating the bathroom in our basement for nearly a YEAR. Funny how easy it was to tear down the moldy drywall but that was last summer!!!! I won't touch it because my lungs will revolt and close up in protest so I can't really help him but I set the deadline of before the end of this month for him to finish. Finally he's seen the light and hired some professionals to finish everything..

Never, never, never again. Painting some rooms in the house, sure, yea, no problem. Ripping up a bathroom or kitchen? No, no thanks. I feel like we could never buy a fixer-upper house because it would take 20 years to finish the renovations.

Okay, deep breath, enough whining from me on that subject! I don't have any good stories from yesterday, I wish I did though. I was tired and went to sleep at 10pm.

I just wanted to add, I'm so happy NOT to be on the weddingbee boards after reading that thread... I don't understand people, I just don't.

Beach, that's why I'm not posting that much over here...because I'm sure my tickers are annoying, but I'm mostly posting on the Bump month board these days, where everyone has multiple ones and I just like being able to see the actual changes. If I could find a way to have the tickers private so only I could see them, I'd do it...but I can't figure out how.

    And thanks for the congrats!

It's not you Lulu so please don't take it personal, I just am not a fan of multiple tickers ever.  I will say though that at least I can see why you would have all 3 since they show different changes.  I will never understand the need to have more than 1 wedding countdown though.

Eh, no offense taken! I did figure out how to see one of them without having it as a ticker though, so now I only have 2.

PS- the development ones used to weird me out too. But now that I'm pregnant, I find I want to see what the baby's doing.

LOL to the ticker convo on here....

Calindi- Oh good. :) I'm glad you get to have a nice stay up there. I suppose there would be a completely different view from the civilian side of it haha!
  • edited December 2011
Umm, I'm totally jealous of LuLu's countdowns. I kind of want to be pregnant just so I can have the fruit and vegetable countdown. I Like it and I want one!!

The contractor didn't leave until like 9:45 last night, which normally wouldn't have bothered me, but when you know your alarm clock is going to go off at 0415am, you just want to go to sleep. I just got home and the banging and noise continues and our Rooster is apparently really upset about something because he's cock-a-doodle-doing and has been for the last 45 minutes.

Beachy- I seriously considered making like 15 tickers to put in my siggy, but alas.. I'm lazy.

    WeddingBee makes me cringe.
Miss Fish Well... the plan is no. But if the Marines decide to make things difficult with deployment, we'll be going to the courthouse and then I'll schedule a big wedding for after he gets back. I really don't want to, but you gotta go what you gotta do.
Seriously? I'm pretty sure that the Commandant of the Marine Corps has more important things to do that so ruin Miss Fish's wedding. And what is this you gotta do what you gotta do BS? I hate this argument for JOP/VR. I hate the immature Brides who are convinced that the military is out to ruin their plans.

Your rooster is cute Sami! That must have been very annoying though, 45 minutes? So long! I hope the renovations on the house will be over soon so you can get a good nights sleep for once.

He is a pretty cute rooster. We have him, and 5 hens. One of our chickens lays greenish blue eggs, I like herTongue out

Fingers crossed that he'll be done tomorrow!!

That's too funny! I've never heard of chickens laying colored eggs like that. The ILs have a chicken coop, but I've never looked at the chickens. But H's grandma has a couple of roosters in her backyard and they always want to bite the visitors! lol

yeah, Fred (his main squeeze is named Ginger so they are Fred and Ginger) is afraid of everyone in the world except me. He chases me when I go in their yard and tries to peck my legs. I usually carry a rake in there with me and threaten him with it. My kitten (I finally named him Max) thinks he's a chicken. He stays in there with them and eats with them, and acts like he's herding them or something. Silly animals. I feel like I live in a Zoo sometimes, even though all we have are chickens and 2 cats.

I'm not allowed to have any farm animals... Fi worries that one day it will be cold out and I'll end up convincing him to let them all come inside and stay warm.. />_< My love of animals is a little extreme.. lol
  • edited December 2011
They are really cool, I mean they have like a bed time. Around 8pm everynight, they all roost in their coop. It's like no matter what, when the sun starts to go down, they go down too. My mom wants to get a goat next.. *shudder*
