    1. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?
Yes, I got a 78 on my last math test and I cried.. I need to get over it! It's over and done with so I need to focus on the next chapter (and get on some BC cause this crying thing is ridiculous)

    2. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?
That my loved ones are healthy and happy, that I've lived my life to the fullest, and I've been true to myself.

    3. What makes everyone smile?
Babies, Puppies & Kittens.  And this video: Clicky

    4. How have you changed in the last five years?
Lets see... I'm married, I've served my country, I've finally chosen a major, I'm more responsible, and I'm aware of the world I live in..

    5. Where do you find peace?
In the kitchen, reading, and at the beach.

    6. When have you worked hard and loved every minute of it?
Helping with relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina.

    7. What are you most looking forward to?
Getting to see my H again after 13 1/2 months.

    8. Have you had any good news lately?
H got some really good news about his lat move! I'm not too excited because it means alot of time apart but it's his dream so I'm happy for him. Besides, it'll give me lots of time to finish my degree..  Oh! And that I signed up the most new members last month at work!

    9. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
Elphaba on Broadway, and the next Martha Stewart.

    10. Say something nice about the poster above you!
I heard that she got up extra early and made whole wheat pumpkin muffins for her morning crowd at work! Isn't she a sweetheart!!? Look out Martha! (Get it.. cause it was myself.. tehehe)

ETA: I wasn't sure if I'm allowed to post what his news was specifically..so I took it out..

    1. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of? Yes, the fact that after 19 years, one of my four older "step"sisters refuses to just call me her sister like the rest do, and couldn't care less about me. I know I should just accept it and be happy the other three love me and call me their sister, but I just don't understand her. It just bothers me a lot. 2. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most? My family. My parents will have passed on, but I hope to still have my hubby next to me. And children and grandchildren...watching them grow! 3. What makes everyone smile? "me" or literally everyone in the world? Me, almost any baby creature! Everyone...food? Who doesnt love food? 4. How have you changed in the last five years? I was a senior in high school 5 years ago. How have I NOT changed? Haha! Hmm I guess I have a better sense of myself, what I want and need, I have my bachelors... 5. Where do you find peace? In the bathtub! And at the cabin on the water. 6. When have you worked hard and loved every minute of it? At my internship last year at an alternative high school. I worked in the 11/12 grade classrooom. I did way too many things to explain, but some included tutoring, mentoring, and helping a pregnant student get hooked up with professional help (WIC, a midwife, etc). It was the most rewarding experience to connect with these students who otherwise would have dropped out. 7. What are you most looking forward to? My wedding in April! 8. Have you had any good news lately? Welllll....my oldest sister told me a month ago that she's preggo yay! But I'm not allowed to say anything to anyone outside the immediate family for another few weeks. (This doesn't count because I don't know any of you IRL) :-) 9. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be? I would want to be a combo of doula/childbirth educator/nursing specialist! Specifically for young moms, but any mom will do! 10. Say something nice about the poster above you! Sami, I haven't been here long, but based on my lurking, I think you are funny and nice and I think we could be friends IRL!

Hey ladies :) I've been too busy to post in a while, but I'll play today :)

    1. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?
I've been holding on to some negative feelings toward my FMIL that I really need to let go of. I've always had an issue with her not being ready for FI to grow up (he's the baby), and on top of that she was just diagnosed with diabetes and refuses to change anything about her terrible eating habits and lack of exercise to combat it. I don't know where to go from here, but I need to quit being so upset with her!

    2. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?
My family, and whether I lived a full, happy life. I'm off to a good start :)

    3. What makes everyone smile?
I'm going to be all corny and go with being loved...best feeling in the world.

    4. How have you changed in the last five years?
I was a freshmen in college 5 years ago..wow! I've certainly grown up a lot, I've become much more independent (moving 1000 miles away from home on my own helped with that), and I finally figured out what I want to do with my life. Oh, and I got over my fear of long distance relationships..good thing.

    5. Where do you find peace?
Curled up reading a book. Nothing can get me away from crazy every day life like a good book!

    6. When have you worked hard and loved every minute of it?
Right now. I'm getting my doctorate in Physical Therapy, and it's tough. It's amazing though...I'm so excited to make a difference in peoples' lives.

    7. What are you most looking forward to?
My 2-month clinical rotation at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego next April, working on vestibular rehab.

    8. Have you had any good news lately?
I got accepted for the clinical rotation at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego ;)

    9. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
Physical Therapist with a million different certifications, working with/for the military. I'm lucky that I am well on my way to having my dream job--I tried out a whole bunch of things before I found something that I am really passionate about.

    10. Say something nice about the poster above you!
Binx, I haven't posted much, especially since you started posting I think, but from all the lurking I've done I think you're really sweet and very funny! Your posts have made me smile quite a few times :)

This drives me sooo crazy!! is it type 2?  Type 2 diabetes is entirely preventable!!  Losing 10% of body fat restores insulin sensitivity in most cases of type 2..  Hellloooooo!!! Put down the big mac and go for a walk!! sheesh.  My Mom's BFF (My 1st BF's mom, which forces me to hear all about my "first love" and his biitch wife) has type 2 and is the same way.. I call her and tell her I'll walk to her house (1 mile) if she'll just walk to the end of the street with me!, I've given her countless free weeks at Curves.. It frustrates me soo much.. okay.. end rant.

<div>Sami--yeahh it's type 2. Even better--the doctor sent her to a diabetes counseling center 8 YEARS AGO because she had high blood sugar and he was worried about her being diagnosed. 8 years ago! Did she go? Of course not. And now it's so bad they want to put her on insulin...but it's still not her fault. I got a recommendation from one of my professors who was doing diabetes research for a good book for her, so I bought it--an informational book, a cook book, and a shopper's guide to tell you what to buy/what not to buy in the grocery store. Awesome, right? Nope. She refuses to look at them because "No, they won't help me." Seriously?! lol sorry, I could go on for days. I'm just a tad frustrated. :p</div>

    1. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?
I'm resentful that FMIL let her ex-husband (FI's step-father) emotionally and physically abuse him as a child.  It took until FI was 13 years old (after being beat up for 6 years at that point) and the step-father started picking on FI's younger sister and FI put his step-father's head through the wall.  Only then did FI's Mom throw the step-father out of her house, so FI holds a lot of resentment that she stood up for his sister on the first time but not for him over 6 years.  She's got a lot of issues with men in general, and excludes FI from a lot of things and basically has ignored him since he was 18 years old.  It enfuriates me, but I need to remember it isn't my issue and I can't fight his battles that he's chosen to leave behind.

    2. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?
Family.  I hope to be surrounded by pictures, still spending time with children and grandchildren.

    3. What makes everyone smile?
Exercise.  Okay, only crazy people smile while actually exercising, but the endorphins make everything else so much better.  I'm a happier person and more patient on the days when I exercise in the mornings.

    4. How have you changed in the last five years?

Oh boy... well, I learned Chinese, went from 'pretty good' to 'fluent' in Spanish, have lived in 4 different cities and traveled to 10 different countries.  I've held 4 jobs, learned innumerable things about "managing up" (the art of managing your relationship with your manager).  I've also went from enjoying the single life to being in a committed relationship, which means my lifestyle has changed significantly.  Before I wanted a big city, and now I am leaning more towards small city or cute suburbs.  Who would have thought?  I'm more focused on fitness and wellness now, more immediately thinking about children (don't worry, not for a few years yet, but I can actually picture myself with kids now).

    5. Where do you find peace?
Near the water.  Always near the water.

    6. When have you worked hard and loved every minute of it?
When I was planning, developing, building and running a Haunted House for an internship in China.  I was in charge of the whole thing, I barely slept for a week, I was constantly running around with a hammer in one belt loop, a roll of duct tape pushed up around my arm, a stapler hung over my other belt loop, a walkie-talkie shoved in my pocket, and my cell phone shoved in the other pocket.  It was so chaotic, held in 4 different languages, and it was AWESOME!  I've never been so exhausted or so fulfilled in my life.

    7. What are you most looking forward to?
Short term - I leave for Costa Rica in 53 hours.
Medium term - moving out of Miami next summer, then getting married!
Long term - having children.  I really, really want kids!

    8. Have you had any good news lately?
    Eh... not particularly.

    9. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
    Novelist and Mom.

    10. Say something nice about the poster above you!
I really don't know amberg (sorry!) but Sami has been practically like a sister to me for the last year.  We email a few times a week and she's a constant source of comfort and advice.  She also sends kick-ass care packages, too!  So far she's sent a batch of cookies when I had bad news to cheer me up, wonderful Stephanie Plum books (tons of books!), and now pumpkin cookies and a fantastic bag that she had custom made for me in my wedding colors with my name sewn on!!!  Isn't she awesome?

    1. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?
Still holding on to what happened with FI's sisters and me. I do really need to just get past it, and put it behind me. But something about it all just really upsets/bothers me and I can't forget it. I've forgiven it, but I can't just let it go. I'm really going to make a better effort to do so - before we go to visit for thanksgiving.

    2. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?
My family and friends. And the love of my life. My health will matter a lot as well.

    3. What makes everyone smile?
Dirty jokes!! And funny little kids.

    4. How have you changed in the last five years?
Very, very much so. 5 years ago I was 17 going on 18. I was in a horrible, horrible place in life. I was partying constantly, smoking marijuana, I was with the wrong crowd. I still managed to graduate, but then worked my way into an abusive relationship. I used to be so confident, and then I started viewing myself in a negative manor. It took everything I had to leave, and almost didn't leave soon enough. (If you want details or want to discuss it, pm me please) I left him after a year - went back to partying. Then meet FI about 8 months later. I had just really gotten into a better/great place a month or two before I meet him. And things just got better from there. When he deployed I became fiercly independant, and learned a lot more about myself than I thought possible during both deployments. But yeah - lots of change.
I'm a firm believer in what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, in case you can't tell.
    5. Where do you find peace?
    In God. and Yoga.

    6. When have you worked hard and loved every minute of it?
I work hard daily. Lol. Okay maybe not physically. But things haven't ever financially been easy for me - I've always worked pay check to pay check until recently. I did work out 5 times a week during deployment and LOVED every minute of it.
    7. What are you most looking forward to?
Getting back in shape. and Getting Married!!!!

    8. Have you had any good news lately?
Not really.. I was able to book a new vendor but that's really it.

    9. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
Whatever that made me happy. At this particular moment - training horses. I'd quit my job and do it in a heart beat.

    10. Say something nice about the poster above you!
Cate has been super friendly/helpful since I came to the board. Always offering advice from a different point of view and helps give me a more calm approach to all of this wedding crap and anything else I'm having issues/trouble with.

    1. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?
There are a few friendships that I should just let go.  I keep trying and trying to reconnect with some of my best friends from high school, but we both aren't good at keeping in touch, so I really should just give up.

    2. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?
Whether I lived my life to the fullest or not.  Family is important and I hope that I can still be close to everyone at that point.

    3. What makes everyone smile?
    Baby laughs and giggles.

    4. How have you changed in the last five years?
Well.  I graduated college two years before everyone else my age (I got an associate's first).  So I had to grow up a little bit quicker than everyone else.  I've definitely settled down (not that I was really crazy before).  I don't really even enjoy going to bars anymore.  I'm more content with staying at home, which I never thought I'd be. My whole outlook and attitude on life has changed in the last few years.

    5. Where do you find peace?
Usually when I'm running or reading a really good book.  Sometimes I will fall asleep with my ipod/headphones on.  Just because it makes me not think, and I relax.

    6. When have you worked hard and loved every minute of it?
College.  I was a fulltime student doing clinicals fulltime and working two jobs.  I would have clinicals 7-3:30 and then I would work at the same facility from 4-11.  I also tutored the class behind us once a week.  It was such a great learning experience.  Looking back, I didn't really have a life but I really don't ever remember complaining about it.

    7. What are you most looking forward to?
Well currently, we are getting engagement pictures at 4:30 today!  But in the further future, I look forward to our wedding and moving in with FI.  I am also looking forward to watching my nephew grow up.  He is only 7 months old right now, but it has been so much fun watching him grow so far.

    8. Have you had any good news lately?
Not anything too exciting.  FI bought me showtime to watch at his house.  That was good news :)

    9. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
I would love to be a photographer.  I'm sure they don't get paid much, but I think I would enjoy coming up with new ideas that it would never get old to me.  I'd meet so many different kinds of people.

    10. Say something nice about the poster above you!
amh- You are really sweet and you've given some great advice.  I don't know a lot about you, but that is no one's fault but my own.  I hope to get to know all of you ladies better :)

    1. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?Physically- yes, a cute coat and dress set that reminded me of Jackie O when I bought.  I keep thinking I will fit into it again but alas it is a size 4 (pre-size altering days). Emotionally- no, I have learned to let go of things that bother me and it makes for a much easier and happier life for me and everyone around me.  I figure that if I hold on to things that I am giving my power and control away.  It took me a long time to get to this place but I am so glad I am here now.

    2. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?
My friends and family.  I want to be surrounded by the ones that I love most.  I also want to look at the pictures of my life and say to myself “I lived a very good life and didn’t regret any of it.”

    3. What makes everyone smile?
My friends/family and of course the fur-babies.  Those two fur-babies are always doing something that makes me smile.  I love when they dream.

    4. How have you changed in the last five years?

Biggest, I got married.  I have learned to let go of things that I cannot change or control.  I would make myself sick worrying over things that I had no control over.  Since learning to let go of things, I have become happier and able to find peace in my life.

    5. Where do you find peace?
At home and on the beach.  I love the sound of the waves crashing against the shore and to me there is nothing more peaceful than that.

    6. When have you worked hard and loved every minute of it?
At the beginning of each semester when welcoming a new group of students.  It is a crazy busy time but it is so rewarding finally meet each of them and welcoming them to the US for the first time.  Also the Princess ½ Marathon.  I trained like crazy for it and when I was running that ½ I had a smile on my face the entire 13.1 miles and could have gone more it was so fun!

    7. What are you most looking forward to?
Long term- For H to get home.  That will be awhile though but never the less I am looking forward to that.  Mid-term- running the Princess ½ marathon again.Short term- everything planned for this month.  I call it the “Month of Fun!”

    8. Have you had any good news lately?
A dear friend of mine found out that she is pregnant.  She has been trying for five years to get pregnant and has been to so many doctors.  I am excited for her and I can’t wait to meet the little one.

    9. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
I would own a bar with friends on an island somewhere.  We have always sat around talking about it and even have a name for the place.

    10. Say something nice about the poster above you!

Spiffycoolbeans- I don’t know a lot about you but you seem very down to earth and give some really good advise.  I hope to get to know you better.

    1. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?
    - I've already let go, and I'm a much happier person because of it :)

    2. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?
    - My family. I want a happy, healthy family and knowing that I'll be waking up next to the same face even when he's full of wrinkles. I want to know that I've lived my life to the fullest and shared it with the ones that matter most.

    3. What makes everyone smile?
    - Relaxing on the beach with a drink in hand

    4. How have you changed in the last five years?
    - I've matured. Alot. I've grown so much as an individual and learned alot about myself. I can finally say that I'm happy with the woman I am and the person I'm becoming. I'm also much more aware of what's going on in the world.

    5. Where do you find peace?
    - When I'm with my lover, at the gym, or on the beach

    6. When have you worked hard and loved every minute of it?
When I'm doing something to help other people. When I accomplish something that's proven to be difficult for me. When I'm working out.

    7. What are you most looking forward to?
    - My next trip to see FI in November! The Marine Corps Ball, getting our engagement pictures done (finally), the day we say "I Do". I'm also looking forward to finishing up my degree and hopefully get into Marketing, finding a job for when I move, and looking for apartments.

    8. Have you had any good news lately?
    - We will hopefully be setting a date soon! Other than that, just getting my business started with my sister.

    9. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
    - Oh boy, this is a loaded question considering I've changed my mind about 50 times. I want to do and try everything at least once. Well I wish I could anyway. I love so many different things that it's hard for me to choose just one. I would also love to be a photographer if I had the money to get started in it. I love pictures.

    10. Say something nice about the poster above you!
    - I don't know much about her, but she seems to be a great person!

    1. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?
    Yeah. :/ But I suppose who isn't?

    2. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?
That H and I ha a successful marriage just as his family has. That he will stil be my best friend, andthat we grew together over the years to be a sucessful couple, as well as successful individuals.

    3. What makes everyone smile?
    Everyone? Puppies :)

    4. How have you changed in the last five years?
Oh goodness... Let me count the ways... lol. I think the largest change has been to learn to bite my tongue when neccessary and be more tactful... (although I have recently learn that being tactful with IDIOTS (<-- for you CAB) doesn't work. They would much rather have you blow up on their drama-asses than be polite, calm, and collected to discuss rather than bitch them out. idiots.

    5. Where do you find peace?
Yoga, the Sauna, the rifle range (<-- it's been a while), with my dogs, the beach, or curled up with H watching the office :)

    6. When have you worked hard and loved every minute of it?
    Starbuck's.

    7. What are you most looking forward to?
    In chronological order:
    Corn maze this weekend
    H getting home
    Corn maze with H :P

    8. Have you had any good news lately?
    Eh.. Not really.

    9. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
Stem cell researcher. I'm getting there.. Gimme a couple more years :o)

    10. Say something nice about the poster above you
EEK she is newer, but I wish she would stick around! yay for USMC! :) and I totally agree with her with the beach and drink in hand. heheh! I like that the paces we 'find peace' have three things in common! I approve ;) hah

    1. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?

I don’t think so. I try to not have grudges, it seems slightly pointless.

    2. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?
My family, my children, my husband…enjoying the simple things in life.

    3. What makes everyone smile?
Puppy kisses…Unless you hate dogs, and then you are just weird.

    4. How have you changed in the last five years?
Let’s see I was a senior in high school, I was slightly awkward, I showed dogs and I was dating a loser, I thought I knew everything.

Now I am a super senior in college, still awkward, engaged to an amazing man… and I realized that I have a lot to learn and the main point in getting your undergrad is learning to learn.

    5. Where do you find peace?
When I visited Australia several years ago, my host family took me to this beach. There was a rock pier that went out about 100 yards. I sat at the end of the pier for about an hour and a half, listening to the waves and watching the sea-life looking for whales..practically surrounded by ocean.  No cares in the world, everything was at peace. That is where I imagine myself when I need some peace.

    6. When have you worked hard and loved every minute of it?
Loved every minute of it? I’m going to say whenever I volunteer. I love the feeling of helping someone that needs help. Manual labor or mentoring, don’t matter it is a great feeling.

    7. What are you most looking forward to?

    Seeing my FI tomorrow! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!

    8. Have you had any good news lately?
I got a 98 on my capstone test. Who does that? Oh…right... me. I think I am going to hang it on my fridge.

    9. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
A person that gets paid to travel around the world and review hotels and restaurants.

    1. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?
    Yes. ;)
    2. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?
My sanity, if I have any left.
    3. What makes everyone smile?
    FREAKIN PUPPIES!
    4. How have you changed in the last five years?
I've matured, my goals and view of the world has changed, my idea of the perfect life has changed, my temper has changed (for the better), hmm, I think pretty much everything about me is different.
    5. Where do you find peace?
    Cheesy alert: FI's arms.
    6. When have you worked hard and loved every minute of it?
Teaching pre-school, and now, working at the adoption agency.
    7. What are you most looking forward to?
    The Honeymoon!!!!!
    8. Have you had any good news lately?
Yes! I found out that I get holiday pay for 3 days around Christmas time, which means I won't have to use all of my PTO for the wedding/honeymoon! WOO HOO!
    9. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
I am jealous of one of my co workers jobs here. She's a Regional Parent Coordinator, which means she matches parents with kids. She gets to interact with the children, and deal with the parents AFTER they've been approved by a social worker (meaning she doesn't deal with the crazies.) I actually get to go with her to an adoption event in a few weeks and I am sooo excited! I'd love to do what she does!

I think Amanda is really cool :)

    1. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?
H's sister got upset at the wedding because she and her Fi had broken up, and was outside crying. So H was out there being a good big brother, and I kept not being able to find him. I'm grumpy she couldn't lock it up so H and I could enjoy the day.

     2. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?
If I was a good American, mother, and wife

    3. What makes everyone smile?
    Puppies are pretty cool.

    4. How have you changed in the last five years?
Immeasurably. I used to revel in drama, because I couldn't stand being bored. My relationships were constant upheaval, I ignored school, I thought about the Marine Corps all the time, but wasn't anywhere close to being deserving the honor of being a leader of Marines. Ugh. I was disgusting and patheticly narcissistic. Without even meaning to be.

    5. Where do you find peace?
Working out, and in California State Parks, which is why people should boycott companies that don't make us pay sales tax (like Amazon). CA state parks are disappearing, and they're one of many things that depend on sales tax. They're such an important resource, and some are closing their gates.

    6. When have you worked hard and loved every minute of it?
I really enjoy my job, and I work hard every day!

    7. What are you most looking forward to?
    Trying for the Marine Corps.

    8. Have you had any good news lately?
I got a bonus at work on Tuesday!

    9. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
    United States Marine.

Kinda late on this one.... but oh well!

    1. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?
I have some ill feelings about my SIL. She's crazy, and a horribly rude person. I have such a hard time being around her, and she outright told DH that she didn't "approve" of us! I really don't feel like I can let go of these feelings, but essentially try to ignore her.

    2. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?
My family and still making sure I'm enjoying life.

    3. What makes everyone smile?
Arrested Development. Well not everyone... but they should!

    4. How have you changed in the last five years?
I grew up a lot! I discovered that I can really handle a lot more than I ever thought I could. I figured out a true passion of mine: teaching students with special needs. Met my DH and realized what true love really was!

    5. Where do you find peace?
When I'm running. Sounds cheesy, but it's my own personal therapy session.

    6. When have you worked hard and loved every minute of it?
Uh yea! With some of the students I teach, the smallest amount of progress is a jump for joy!

    7. What are you most looking forward to?
    Next Spring!!!

    8. Have you had any good news lately?
Nothing really. No news is good news, right?

    9. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
Professional wine taster! I don't want to spit it out, so I might have to work from home :)

    10. Say something nice about the poster above you!
Don't know a lot about you, but you are getting married soon, so Congrats!
