Register whenever you want, just don't register at a place like Target, where the inventory changes so constantly. And be prepared to update a lot, which you can both do online.

My fiance is also deployed and I'm registering without him. (He really has no interest in the majority of the things we need to register for anyways. He only cares about "cool stuff.")  He'll go online and tell me if there's anything he absolutely doesn't want and once he's home we're going to go back and add anything he wants.

Ditto Meg. You can do almost all registering online, just give him the login info so he can change things if he wants.

I did all our registering myself (FiI is currently deployed). I tried to explain to him what I was doing and the response was "yeah, get whatever you want" haha so don't worry!

i Just did the same thing - register now if you'd like. My family wanted me to register and we also have a good family friend who requested it. So we did it early. It is nice though because now if anyone asks me what i want for a birthday or christmas we can direct them over there.

I registered with him deployed he got back on Sunday and i gave him the log ins so he could see things. he was nice and went thought it all. And friday I went out and intentionally looked for things i knew he'd want: tools, grilling stuff. But it's so easy to do online even with local specialty stores that one here for example put up multiple china patterns and flatware so he could see them instead of just one since he couldnt come into the store. I just asked and they were more then happy to do it for us. I also asked the FI if he could get presents what he'd want and registered for some more just him things as well - camping stove, lantern. One other thing we did to involve him was i took pictures and emailed him stuff so he could see it. But you can always add to it so get down your basics and what you think you'd like on both sides. and no worries if he comes home and hates something or really wants something else you can always add it.

Just make sure if you register early you dont register for seasonal items, or that you are willing to go back and update it later when those items change or aren't available.

I'd just look into policy and be wary and also look for perks - example our registry at a local store wont ship until after the wedding which means we arent storing our china and daily pacesetting or crystal and more importantly we arent moving it :)

    Have fun shopping around!!
