Military Brides

Intro

I've been lurking on the board for awhile but I thought I'd finally introduce myself to everyone.
My fiance isn't in the Navy quite yet, he's taking his physical in a couple weeks but it is a for sure thing that he's joining, it's just a matter of when he will go in. I'm so very proud of him for taking this step to achieve what he really loves doing.
I come from a big military family (every generation has had at least 3/4 of the guys in the military) so I have no problem with him being in.
We're getting married in the next couple months depending on when he gets sent out to basic. Technically we're eloping, but with a really small wedding before he leaves or if he leaves pretty soon, then after he gets done with basic.
I'm pretty excited for all the coming changes and look forward to hearing from the ladies on this board :)

    Hey there!

I come from a military family too, and my fiance is in pretty much the same stage of joining the Marines. He just got through with his physical and has one more audition to do next week for the musicians' program. Once he knows whether or not he's in to that, it's just a matter of waiting to find out when he leaves for boot camp and then for the music school!

Look forward to seeing you around :)

Congrats! I also have been lurking around for a while also. My fiance is in the Navy too. I may be a little biased, but I think the Navy is the best branch. Wink I just wanted to tell you, there is SOOO much backlog with the Navy. My fiance signed in May 2009 and didn't actually leave until a year(ish) later. So, more than likely you won't have to worry about having to have a "hurry up" wedding.

Welcome!  Ditto PP about there being a big delay in shipping out after joining.  And TBH, if he hasn't joined yet officially, there is still a chance that he won't get in.  My H was a a Navy recruiter at our last station, and  because the Navy was so fully manned, it was very difficult to get in.  So good luck to him.  And if he does get in, there's a decent chance it will be at least a few months, and up to a year before he leaves for boot camp.  He will be a Depper (dep means Delayed Entry Program), and will just have to report with his recruiter about once a week, and have PT usually twice a month.  How soon he ships will completely depend on what rate he goes.  So you might have much more time than you expect, or there is also a chance of him shipping out within a few weeks.  If you have any questions about the process of joining or anything with the Navy feel free to PM me.

I waited from September to July to go in and that was 3 1/2 years ago. I imagine that it's alot worse now a days.

Thanks so much for letting me know these things.
My brother has also been telling us that it may be awhile before he actually gets sent out and we both figured the same thing.
