AHRN?

Automated Housing Referral Network..

Has anyone used them for a PCS?  Someone recommended it to H, and I saw it in my Military Spouse magazine.  I've found some houses through them, but they all want to be rented yesterday, so I would feel really silly calling since we wouldn't even move in until February.  Why can't everyone have the compulsive need to plan things super far in advance like I do?

FI used it to find his house!  There were lots of new listings daily.  It helped a lot.  He put me on the account too since I had more time then him to look.  So he had good luck wih it!  Just keep looking every day, maybe something will come up that works for you guys.

Sami! Use it! It's what I used to find all the houses we looked at and the one we decided to go with. Real estate agents told us not to book a meeting until a few weeks before you get in for PCS because a lot of houses tend to get snatched up quickly. I really liked AHRN since it was easy to navigate through and all the houses we found were from there, we didn't like much from other search engines.

I don't think 4 months is that early. Perhaps in the eye's of the military it is. Do you guys get X days in a hotel to find housing once you get there?

Also are you looking to rent or own? H and I also used a couple other sites - (he originally wanted to purchase)

    Thank you Ladies!!

Renting definitely.  He's taking 30 days of leave in mid-late Feb, and he has the option of the 10 days for HH.  I'll be in school though, so in an ideal world I could go during my Christmas break, find a place send him pics and then decide right then and there.  He really wants to have a place so that when he comes home we can focus on furniture and stuff.  I'll be a 96 hour wife, since I'll only be there Thursday-Sunday until May.  He said he'll probably check in early and not take the full 30 days.  I just want to be able to have a list of X houses to go and look at over like a weekend.  We want our own place ASAP, mostly because the idea of having sex in my parents house gives me the heebie jeebies.Wink I mean it will have been OVER A YEAR!

I had found an apartment that we were pretty sold on, but I wanted to keep looking especially when the fees for the application, credit check, background check all came to more than $300!! I was like that's hella ridiculous.  I've found a few 2-3 BR houses for wayyy less than the apt was going to be so I feel better about letting the apartment go.  Oh! and they weren't even finished building them yet! They were supposed to be done in Sept, but last I heard from them they were "hoping" for December.

You are too funny Sami! I feel the same with doing it at both are parents' houses but H doesn't! LOL I really wanted to do the housing thing the way you do. We tried finding places since June but every single place we looked into then said it's too early. Even up until a month before, unless you are already ready to out your deposit and move in. And those application fees are outrageous! We paid $50 for both of us including background and credit checks.
