Military Brides

Saturday plans.

My BFF's wedding reception is in like 2 hours, and it is raining cats and dogs outside. Thunder and Lighting, the whole 9 yards. I feel terrible for her because her whole reception was planned for outside. She and her H JOP'd AND DIDN'T LIE TO ANYONE ABOUT IT. Hopefully it will let up soon...

What is everyone else doing with thier weekend?

aww I hope your BFF  will be ok with all the rain, that stinks! But as they say it's about being man and wife w/o lieing! :) YEAH! I hope it will end for her as well and is able to make the most of it.

As for today, honestly enjoying it. I thought I had to work  LOL thus the reason my boss said "See, that is exactly why you need a day off!" LOL I worked 6 days straight, trying to meet deadllines and I was almost there :( First time in 12 yrs. Being 2 short in our accounting dep. is no fun! Last month I worked 15 days straight after visiting my daughter for a week to get her wedding plans rolling and catching pnemonia not being able to work for another week and not being able to get all the things done that I wanted to while visiting her.

FI volunteers on Saturdays, so they're kind of lazy days for me. I'll go run later though.

MOB, if you don't want to be one of those MILs, then chances are you won't be.  My FI absolutely adores my Mom, though she is a bit nosy at times, he knows she does it with love and he tells her to butt out kindly and with affection when necessary!  My FMIL is fine, neutral, whatever.  She and FI have a complicated history, and they're not particularly close (she's not the 'warm fuzzy' type at all).  So we get along okay, I don't have a burning desire to call her up and talk to her or involve her in our life, but I take my cues from FI and the fact that he doesn't interact with her much.  We involve his Dad and his sisters willingly and frequently, so it's all the relationship you have with your child and the relationship you build with their spouse.

Anyway, I woke up at 6am to help FI pack up his car and grab breakfast at our local diner before he hit the road.  Then I moped for a bit and watched Grey's Anatomy on the computer.  Then I went and got a manicure.  And now I'm starting the process online to get certified to be a teacher - I'm going to try to get a job for this fall at a local school teaching math!  Ultimately I'd want to teach Spanish, but as a non-native speaker, I won't get hired down here in Miami so I'm going to wait until we relocate to get that certification.  I may not be able to always work in a school, but teaching is such a flexible career and I'd be able to tutor when I'm between jobs when we move.

Going to my cousin's wedding in an hour. Its also raining here and I feel bad for her.  :( We are getting married at the same church, and although I can't change the weather she wanted my date but I already booked it. Now I feel like a douchecanoe.
However, if it rains on my day I'll feel less guilty.

@ Cali,I think I do have the ability to be "difficult" as most moms do I think. So I am always trying to keep myself in check.

I am in the thought process of writing him a personal letter stating how I am happy on the man that my daughter picked to be her husband and welcome him to my family, but I am stummped right at the get go. His name is Jon, and to me starting it out as "Dear Jn" doesn;t sit well with me. LOL sounds stupid but I truely don't like it.

Even though I have only met him once, the qualities that he has impress me, and to "hear" my daughter all excited and happy is a great feeling. It is just hard with both famillies being so far away. His mother is just as adorable. I met her while in another state for a concert I went to, weird how all that worked out that  mazingly she lived in the same town. Double bonus! I actually met her before I met him which in a way was a great idea looking back at it all.

Isn't rain supposed to be good luck for a wedding?

I'm getting married at 5:30 on the beach in Florida in the middle of summer. I will probably have a thunderstorm haha

@ gg, the 2pm showers  @ least in Louisiana. That's how I was able to tell what time it was. So by 5pm those would be the same showers in FL.

@gggirl: rain is supposed to be good luck in some cultures, I know it is in mine. But only a little, not a storm like Sami described. lol I hope the weather got better there Sam!

It's Sunday here now on my end of the world. And I'm just waiting for H to come back from duty. I'll be making breakfast in a bit then we'll get ready to hit up the beach with friends. The weather's been very nice here recently. We even got a grill, cooler and lots of food to bring with us. Shoulld be a pretty good day!

Other than that..I need to head out and get a baby shower gift for my cousin and keep resting to get rid of this head cold!

Yes he is in Iwakuni right now. At some point he's going to Okinawa. I don't think this is violating any OPSEC regulations, but if it is let me know.

Oh!!, I have a question.  There's a couple that DH works with, they got engaged the same time we did, and he really likes them. She's pregnant and their having a boy. I want to get them something, but having not actually ever met them I'm worried that it would be weird. I mean, I would mail it to DH for him to give to them, but is that weird? I wanted to maybe even like make them a baby blanket or something, or should I stick to something store bought?

    ggirl: Well that's good!

Sami: I don't think it's weird at all. It's the same with weddings, people get gifts from others they've never met but know them threw family or something. I think it's a very nice gesture. A blanket would be great!

ETA: Your friend shouldn't have compared your receptions! It's okay to be snarky. lol

Sami-did you have a lot of the Sangria? Your posts made me burst out laughing. And your hubby is there?? what does he do?? I went to several weddings last year without FI. It was sucky I agree. I'm thankful though that he made it home for my brothers.

If you're going to do it, maybe something store bought. And if your H gives it to the guy I don't see it being weird. He will probably just say my wife and I wanted to do something for you and the baby so she sent this over.

  • edited December 2011
Haha.. I was hoping it wasn't completely obvious that I drank more than my fair share of the sangria. Her dad made sure my glass was NEVER empty. Wine makes Sami sillyEmbarassed

DH works in one of the warehouses. He's in aviation supply. Thats really all I know..

I just want to give them something because I like babies.

    Definitely send something over.

I'm also glad that you had your fair share of wine. It can make it more enjoyable, especially when you're at a wedding without H.

How sad is it though, that I was sitting there and I was like "I can't wait to go home and check the knot." Does that make me like a super bit*h, because I'd rather talk to you ladies, than people I went to high school with... and can I say ther her H is totally unfortunate looking and he smiled maybe twice the entire night.
