Military Brides

Plans Schmans (vent)

Apparently we've gotten our first major curve ball from the military.  Whoopidy doo!

FI was supposed to report for duty the beginning of August at a temporary post while waiting for his TBS start date in the spring, and I would join him after the wedding a few weeks later.  However, the funding was cut for that role, so we'll be living with my parents indefinitely... at least until October 1st.

On the plus side, it means we get a honeymoon without the military affecting our dates or having to ask for leave.  On the negative side, it means we're going to be living with my parents for at least 2 extra months, probably longer.  And we won't want to spend as much on the honeymoon as we don't know when we'll have income again.  And it means we'll have to both find a way to make money in the meantime.  It's like our whole lives are on hold while we wait for those orders.

And plus also... I'm sure CAB agrees.... who really wants to spend their time as newlyweds living with their parents?!

Anyway, that's my vent of the day.

Oh no.  I am sorry to hear that.
  • This post doesn't exist. Thanks TK. You suck.

  • Ugh...I don't even like living with parents on my own.  I can't imagine being a newly wed and living with either set of parents.

    A-freakin-men.

    Welcome to the club, Cal.
Think of it this way, I've been living here for 3 months now, and it's seriously flown by fast.
But man, I am sorry... cause that does freakin suck.

    Hey mine went away again!

Cal- that sucks.  I am sorry that is happening.

Edited- since my first post went away and now it is back.  TK SUCKS today!
  • That really does suck.

But look on the bright side - you guys are getting a honeymoon and won't have to worry about him trying to take leave/training schedules and so forth affecting it at all. In the scheme of things living with your parents really does suck, and it isn't fun, but now you won't have to be apart after the wedding and you'll be saving money, it's nice that you have that relationship with your parents to be able to live there as long as you need to.

Hope things get straightened out with your FI's report date and you guys have a better time frame soon.

Ugh, ate my post. I HATE YOU TODAY TK.
  • Ugh. That royally sucks. Is his TBS start date still in the spring, or is everything pushed back? I won't say I've been exactly there, but waiting on them to figure everything out is definitely in my "please God, not again for a long time" file.

  • I'm sorry, that stinks....but hey... it could be worse... I know it stinks to live with your parents.... but at least you have parent's that are willing to take you in AND You can go on a Honeymoon (Big or small it is about spending time with each other).

Your wedding in in Sept right? That is about a month with the parents... Not bad at all..

TBS is the same time - they cut funding for the post-bar internship.  It's complicated, but basically he won't get his TBS report date until he hears whether he passed the bar, which will be the end of September, so if it's <6 months from October 1st, he can probably go AD right away in October.  If it's later, then we wait longer with my parents.

The estimated TBS start date is April/May, which means November would be when he'd go AD.  So most likely we'll be out of there by November, not toooooo bad!  But it might be as late as January that we get to move out of my parents' house.

Amanda, we'll be living with them from May 20th until at least October 1st, so that's 4 months, as much as 7 months.  It was supposed to be only 2.5 months!
