NWR: furniture

Sooo, I finally had a day off work and I've been buying furniture for my apartment at school.  I was originally going to use FI and I's furniture but it was too big for my room.

So basically I've been trying to buy furniture on the cheap.  Welllll I bought a big dresser and a little lingerie chest for a total of $65!  GO ME!  But they needed to be painted so I refinished them to match my other furniture and I'm so proud of myself I didn't know I could be so handy! Here are my before and afters!

Those look great! And what a deal too.

Yea I couldn't really afford to buy new furniture since I am paying for school.  Nor could I justify paying so much money for new furniture to use for 2 years and then we would have nowhere to put it when I was done!

@Irishcurls. Is that Santorini in your siggy? Will you be going there for your HM? If you are then I am jealous! H and I were going to include Greece on our HM too but it's rainy season at the time so we chose to just stick with Italy.

    Sorry for the threadjack!

@Kara I have no suggestions for new furniture :( Since I haven't bought any new stuff here.  My family LOVES Esprit Decor in Chesapeake, its a smaller store but my parents have bought stuff from them for years.

Since, like I mentioned I was buying furniture on the cheap, I bought mine off craigslist with the intentions of refinishing them!

@irishcurls:  I'm going to radford university.  I've been to an array of schools, hopefully this is my last haha.  I originally attented VCU (if you watch college basketball you should know us!) but after my second year I moved to live with my fiance and went to a community college then decided it was too expensive out of state and moved home and now here I am.  A million transferred (and a lot of untransferred lol) credits later.  Trying to finish college! lammmMe!

Thanks! I will have to look into that store. Do they do delivery? Our furniture are Japanese, even the size. We would like to get some new standard American ones. lol Is there a home gallery furniture store at the NEX there?

home gallery furniture store?  I'm not sure.  There is a section at the NEX with furniture, but there isn't a lot!

Oopps, I phrased that incorrectly. lol In our Japan base, there's a big furniture store and a home gallery store with appliances and decor. I was wondering if the one there had it. I guess I'll just have to wait and see!

Craigslist is a great place, but always make sure someone goes with you to pick up the furniture or whatever.  I'm overly cautious, but I refuse to go by myself.. ever.

I find lots of great things at thrift stores too...

Ikea has some awesome deals, but you have to put the furniture together yourself. I just ordered 2 RAST dressers for our apartment.

I'm going to paint them either Deep Ocean (the first swatch) or Peacock Blue (the second one), both by Benjamin Moore.

And I'm going to free hand "His" and "Hers" on the tops of them in white..
I think it'll look great with the sheets and comforter we got!!!

    Tehehe!!! I'm excited about them!!
