What the heck - Hi

Ok, so I'm bored and I think I've read every post today at least twice... Guess that means I could do a little intro.

I'm AD AF (enlisted), am divorced (he was Army) and I have a 2yo daughter. I can't regret my marriage because of my little one, who is the most amazing thing ever. But I have learned A LOT from it. While I'm not planning a "real" wedding right now, my sister and I like to dream and plan and so we spend a lot of time on TK and, in her case, in bridal magazines. I think we've probably planned something like 6 or 7 "dream" weddings in the last 10 years.

Some day I hope to announce I'm marrying the most amazing man ever and will actually get to plan my dream wedding. Until then, I'll probably sit back and continue to feel like a stalker as I lurk in the cyberspace shadows reading all of your posts. (Insert creepy stalker music here...) And by the way, I love reading this board, and I love wine!

  • Thanks, and congrats on your Spotlight feature. How cool! Do you mind if I ask about where in Iowa you are from/live? I grew up in DSM.

    Hi and welcome!

I'm glad you came out from lurking.  And I totally get the dream wedding thing - just be careful when you do meet guys because they might get freaked!  We don't talk TOO much wedding stuff here, though, so it's really not an issue at all.  We have plenty of married ladies who aren't planning, so it's not much different!

What's your daughter currently into?  I'm so glad Teletubbies seem to be done - I hope there's something far less annoying when I have kids, or I might end up just putting on the VHS videos of Winnie the Pooh from when I was a kid!!!

I don't let her watch much TV, and when I do it's usually Mickey Mouse or a movie. Lucky for me, she LOVES Care Bears (hence my SN, Cozy Heart Penguin is my favorite CB character), Strawberry Shortcake and Disney princess movies. She is mostly obsessed with Beauty and the Beast. I don't think I could handle it if she liked Teletubbies or any of the other annoying kid shows out now.

Oh, and I'm not worried about scaring any guys off with wedding talk. Found a guy who didn't turn and run at the sight of a toddler and he's become my best friend. I'm crazy about him, so just taking things one day at a time and letting life happen as it will this time around.

That's wonderful!  I wish you the best of luck, whether with this great guy or another.  My FI and I were best friends for about 4 months before we started dating - one day, instead of going on a blind date as he had planned, he cancelled and stayed in and played Monopoly with me all night - and at dawn, he kissed me!  Sometimes you do end up marrying your best friend, and it's a pretty wonderful thing.

Taco Time is in Ames - you could probably ask any of the professors who have been there a while and get perfect directions.

In DSM, Baratta's is the best romantic date night place ever! It's also just a great place to have a nice dinner with the fam or a girls night out. The Tavern used to be the place for pizza, probably still is actually. I spent the last few years of my Iowa life in Indianola (about 20 miles south of DSM) and the have the best little deli/bakery on the town square called Funaros. The chicken salad and egg salad sandwiches are amazing and the snickers stuffed peanut butter cookies are unforgettable! It's been so long, um... Tasty Tacos is great fast but fresh tacos in DSM and if Big Daddy's BBQ is still over by East High School - well, it's work driving into the "ghetto".  Maxine's in WDM, on Grand Ave, was another fave of mine, but I don't know if it's still around... oh, I'm so hungry now!

  • I've lurked enough to know you ladies aren't wack jobs, and I'm not one to judge the tipsy typer. Give me another 30 minutes minutes and some more wine, and I might just be one too. (I don't have my kiddo tonight, otherwise I wouldn't be drinking more than a single glass of wine with dinner.)
