Dad vs. FI...which uniform to wear?! *PIP*

My dad is a Navy O-6, my FI is an Air Force E-4 (yay for recent promotion!).  FI is wearing mess dress and so my dad is going to as well.  I decided that I'd rather have dad in the mess dress than the chokers but I don't know which medals he should wear.  I'm thinking since FI will be in mess dress with mini medals dad should wear minis, too.  What do you think??

This is what FI will be wearing (just not quite so many stripes...)

This will be dad's uniform w/ mini medals

This is the choker uniform I decided against, but it shows the large medals.

Thanks!!!  :)

  • I voted choker whites with large medals. That uniform is my favorite. It's pretty gangster. DH is Navy so I've seen them in person too.

  • I love the choker whites....oor FI calls them something else....which would be awkward talking about your dad.. I wanted to wait for FI to commission before we got married, so he could wear them...but waiting on the Navy takes too long.. haha

  • Haha, yeah I had forgotten how sharp the chokers looked when I decided.  I just thought it might be better to have them both in the short dinner jackets w/ cumberbunds and bow ties...idk.  Maybe I'll show the pix all to FI and see what he thinks.  My dad keeps asking what he prefers and FI is all "oh IDGAF what he wears.  I'm a GUY." lol

  • Chiefs and Officers wear a mix of stuff to balls all the time.  I think they'll look fine.  Heck, I had DH in cracker jacks and 2 of his attendants in Army DB's at our VR.

  • I have not been to a ball yet (deployment sort of got in the way) but from what I understand here is a mix at the balls I don't think there would be a problem.  Although, I don't know a lot about dress and stuff so I may not be the one with the best advise.

Oh and just for the record, I like the choker.

I guess I'm the lone freak who thinks their uniforms should be as similar as possible. Plus, your dad is already a Navy Captain, and you're marrying a Senior Airman? No fair to give your dad bigger medals too, lol.

Haha see, THIS is what I was worried about!  Lol.  The large medals are VERY intimidating.  Plus my dad has seen a bit more "action" than FI so there are a LOT of them to deal with!

  • Why don't you ask your dad what he prefers if your FI doesn't have a preference?

  • I'm sorry I oogle over the choker whites every time I see them.  I hope DH gets to wear them some day.

The JOP then Catholic ceremony thread...

ETA: She deleted her original response where she says that she got married and is doing a do-over later. Which, would have been fine in her case, actually, except for the fact that she says "they will do the ceremony just like a wedding and no one will ever know!" Not an exact quote, but that was pretty much the jist of it. That, and the calling her H a FI is what is making me side eye.
  • Oh yes, I read that. She deleted it??
    image
  • Oh she's in one of those "pretend" marriages. Gotcha.
    image
  • Yeah, she deleted that. Honestly, her reasoning was legit, too. Plans changed on her last minute. But, it seems as though its a hush hush thing... I could be wrong, but when you say things like "it's the same and no one will ever know..." and calling her H a FI, you can't help but assume that.

*Cue someone telling me "you know what they say about people who ASS-ume..."
    WOMP WOMPPPP...

Yeah see I don't judge that. But I don't agree with lying ya know? Things can happen with the military.

Yeah, whatever on the quick marriage.  Boo on the lying. Just be like, "Yo, things changed, so we got married in a hurry, but we still want to celebrate!"

As far as the uniform goes, I'd say whatever he's most comfortable in.  I'm with Stan - keep the uniforms as similar as possible, and if one has mini-medals, do them both in mini-medals.

  • Yeah, if you're going to lie to people that's not cool. I'm all about the core vales and I'm pretty sure lying works against the whole honor thing.

  • Give her a break ladies...

I got married in a quickie ceremony two weeks ago... and we are having a WEDDING in June. Not very many people know about us being married yet (We did so to get a jump on the legal parts and build a house) and we aren't running around telling every one because we don't want to take away from our special day in June that we have planned for over a year.

To people who don't know, I call my husband my fiance.  Big friggen deal.  To each their own.
