I'm pretty sure natives to mexico would be very offended by your taco bell comment.

Taco Bell is NOT mexican food. It's fast food. Which is why you saw a line out the door, to Mexico, it's American food. It's like saying Pizza Hut is Italian food. Not really offended, just clarifying.

Since I've been home I've eaten at taco bell once. I got chips and cheese.

Most of the mexican resturants don't even come close to what we had

I was just in Portland last week and ate at this awesome BBQ place.. mmm... :)

My favorite place that I have ever visited was probably Riga, Latvia because that's where my heritage is traced and I have very very close ties to my Latvian heritage..

Other than that.. any place that has beach and ocean :o)

Hike-thank you for quoting it! I wouldn't have known what other stupid thing Kendall said again.

Kendall-food will ALWAYS be different at the actual country than how it is in America, there's no comparison. The food we have back home have been "Americanized" most of the time.

As for the question, it's quite difficult for me. It's a very big toss up between Italy and Japan. Both countries are equally amazing yet so different from one another. But I would love to go back to either one over and over again!

I'm not trying to attack you but your post rubbed me the wrong way. It's really insensitive to compare an American fast food, cheap restaurant to a native peoples way of life/food. You might not have meant to be offensive in your original post but to then continue to compare it makes zero sense to me. Iknow you hate when people stereotype you because of being young, marrying into the military, and wanting to have a baby so fast. You're doing the same.

I loved living in Portland! I was there as a recruiter from 03-06. The NW was by far my favorite place to live so far.

As for my favorite place to visit- Italy. We went there on our honeymoon (Rome, Florence, and Venice), and I'd have to say that Florence was my favorite- with Venice being a close second. :)

I took the original Taco Bell comment as tongue in cheek, but even still, I've become accustomed to cultural ignorance. It's pretty sad, but lots of people think China is full of people cooking sweet 'n sour pork and egg rolls. And lots of people go to all inclusive resorts in Mexico and feel like they've experienced real Mexican culture and cuisine, which is usually a false environment created for tourists. I'm just glad when people go outside their comfort level and try something new, especially while traveling. It's an improvement, at least.

I lived in Hamburg and loved it! Abroad, I'd say Prague + NE Germany (near Poland and the Baltic) were my favorite of places I've been. I also really liked Barcelona.

In the States, I love Maine and Alaska so, so much. The wildlife, the lack of traffic (compared to here), it's all so glorious. I used to watch Northern Exposure all the time, and it was my dream to live in small town Alaska.

I'd hate to have to pick just one place I have lived or visited. I've loved most of them for different reasons (except Miami. I'll have fond memories of our time here, and our first home together, but I think it is a swell known fact there is no affection lost on this city from me). One place I've lived where I would kill to live again some day is southern Spain. Sevilla was incredible and I'd recommend it to anyone! FI has never been, and I can't wait for an opportunity to show him. One place I have traveled where I would love to live is Germany. The food, the beautiful landscapes in the countryside, the people are generally friendly if not effervescent. FI and I would love love love to live in Germany at some point! Orat least visit more. My favorite vacation ever was Costa Rica, which is one reason I am super excited to go back with my parents, brother & his girlfriend, and FI in one month!!! I don't know that I would ever want to live there full time, but FI and I have a pipe dream of buying a gorgeous piece of land and building a villa, renting it out through a property management company most of the year, and then use it ourselves whenever we want. The renters would make it cost effective and hopefully a profitable way to vacation in paradise.

Oh, and no judgement on All Inclusives - I've done them myself and enjoy them. But it isn't a true cultural experience, it is a way of traveling with as little organization, budgeting, or work required. Most trips I enjoy the adventure, but when you just want to relax, AIs are perfect.

I liked japan. they people were so friendly, and the food was way better than tokyo express.

Just kidding! However, Japan was really nice (except when we got spit at, and when taxi drivers wouldn't let us ride because we were Americans, more specifically American Military).

My favorite places on earth are:
Gulf Shores, AL
Charleston, SC
"Bear" Bryant Stadium in Tuscaloosa, AL

Kendall, do your self a favor and if/when you go back to college, take an English class. Not one that teaches you how to properly cite your research materials, but one that teaches you the basic difference between "were" and "we're". It will probably be a remedial class because most colleges (even community colleges) assume that it's students know about proper grammar and sentence structure. I'm pretty sure most 4th graders know to capitalize states, and countries. It can't even be blamed on your education, my H grew up in Oregon, and he knows that Taco Bell is an American fast food chain and not authentic Mexican cuisine. He also knows not to start a sentence with "But". I don't claim to be an expert in grammar, I may forget to use spell check once in a blue moon, heck I might even use a few run on sentences and a few too many commas, but I know what I'm supposed to capitalize, I know that this gem:
[QUOTE]They people we're so friendly.

I know i'm wayyyyy late on this but it's a long weekend and FI had been home until last night :) Anyway, my favorite place to visit is Alaska. It was absolutely beautiful! I went on a cruise there in 2008 but we did a lot of excursions that let us explore the wildlife and it remarkable. And the seafood out there was to die for! It puts East Coast seafood to shame :)@firsttimers FI and I are going to an all inclusive in Mexico for our HM. It's on the Maroma Beach and it looks like it will be a lot of fun. Are you looking to do an all inclusive in the Caribbean opr Mexico? I can let you know how it is when we get back in November if you'd like :)
