[QUOTE]In the book, which is much darker, funnier, and Forrest is a lot smarter (it's told in the first person, so we see his thought process) than in the movie; it's definitely AIDS. I recommend the book, it's been a while since I read it, but it's pretty good, but not really a feel-good thing. It's like they took the very bare bones of it to construct the movie--book Forrest would have hated movie Forrest. Also, because Shan made me think of this, in FI's squad they refer to each other by rank and first name (i.e. Lt. Jim or Cptn. Cindy) and he has a co-worker named Dan. Lt. Dan. FI didn't catch this until he was telling me about the people he was working with and I busted out laughing.

1st. Thank you for answering my next question (re. Was it a book first).
2nd. I would not be able to keep a straight face if H called his buddy/coworker Lt. Dan. :) Mostly because it's the way Forrest says it that makes me bust a gut. </p>
