Military Brides

FRG

I have some questions about yours

Are you active in yours?
What are somethings that they do that you like?
What are somethings that they do that you don't like?
Military Brides December 2011 Siggy. Holiday picture with your SO. We suck and don't have one :/ Those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter.

I only went to 2 meetings but the lady was really nice and did a lot. They had different speakers come in. One time it was a guy from the VA.

I'm not really active in THIS FRG because there aren't many people in my squadron active in it.. but my mom is affiliated with the FRG since that's... part of her job.. so I grew up around them all the time.
I like that they have a LOT of information regarding families (whether just a couple, or a couple with kids) and always has someone that knows a person who knows a person to help you out whenever you need it.
I don't like how catty they can be.. but I think that's to be expected whenever you get a BUNCH of women together.. especially a bunch that are missing their hubbys haha

I am not active in one right now either since H has been station in Japan and the base close by here is AF. Although I am planning on being active at out next station. I'd really like to get involved. I know their last meeting took place at a frozen yogurt place, seems like my kind of thing. lol

I am not trying to post-jack, but this actually relates to something I was wondering about. I'm not FI's wife, yet, how do I get involved with activities on base or can I be involved with something like the FRG (or Air Force equivalent, if there is one) or do any sort of wives' activities welcome involvement from fiancees? And how do I find these people? This is one of those points at which my lack of military life knowledge makes me a little insecure. I love volunteering and helping people out, but don't know how to get involved on base. And I adore FI, but he's horrible at remembering to ask questions for me, so anything I could do as much on my own as possible would be awesome.

Does his base have a Facebook page? These are becoming really popular with the AF. I found a spouse group at H's last base by searching on facebook.. when I was still his gf then FI. They were awesome but I wasn't living there, they met off base a couple times a month and if they met on base one of the wives would pick you up or make sure you  got there. I was only able to go a few times but really liked the ladies.

I am very involved with the FRG.  I'm not a board member, but i have a position that requires me to work very closely with it, so I'm very involved.

The best part about ours is we get lots of info on the ship at them, and the info is only attainable by going to meetings because of OPSEC.

I definitely understand the frustration about cattiness or bad atttidues.  I think a lot of spouses get negative attitudes towards the board members and other positions because they think information is just purposely being withheld from them.  Also, they forget, or don't realize, that those are all volunteer positions, and they are also just military spouses as well, so they don't always have all the answers.

divine- I would have your FI ask about getting access for you.  I know our FRG accepts FI's and family members as well, but you have to be approved by your sailor and get put on a base access list for meetings.  You can also try finding the information for the FRG yourself on the website or by calling the base, and asking them what you need to do to attend meetings.

divinemsbee an easy way to get involved is to get involved with your wives club. If/when you know some of those ladies, you may feel more comfortable going to the bigger ASG/FRG meetings. The wives clubs tend to be more active since it's specific to your unit/squadron/whathaveyou (therefore smaller) and they usually meet once a month (similar to the FRG/ASG meetings) but often have more things going on. My wives club has something going on every WEEK, even if it's just a dinner and are always meeting for random things like planning time and talent, putting together a squadron calendar, etc.
Of course you are always welcome to go straight to the FRG, it's just sometimes easier to meet the wives near you first because if the meetings are held on base/post (and they usually are) you may not have an ID to get on by yourself until you get married.
Also, beware of SOME snarky women. I have had a couple experiences with women because I'm "just the girlfriend" or now "just the fiance' " absolutely not all of them are like this, but they are there on their entitled high horse... Just thought I would give you a heads up!

They are called the "wives club" for short but the actual title has been changed to "spouses club" and you, as a spouse, count. ;)

dnbeach- I haven't seen the cattyness surrounding any of the board members for the most part. It's usually just a couple of "those" wives that feel entitled and think they know all for one reason or another (in our case, it's often the "academy" wives that feel entitled since they dated their husbands whlile they were going through that.. oh brother *rolls eyes* ). We also are lucky though and have super awesome board members. Most are 04 house moms so they have a little more time and are more "grown up" in the world of the military. In fact, they often frustrate the guys because they tend to give us a little TOO much info haha

What's your position that you are allifiated/active ? jc

<div>I notice for our FRG a lot of wives make their comments about the board members and stuff, but it usually comes from the wives who think they are too good for FRG and the meetings.  But yeah, military spouses are an interestin group, and the sense of entitlement of some is just amazing.</div><div>
</div><div>I don't want to post my position on here, just because I don't trust everyone that's around, or could be lurking.  </div>

    ah ok, no worries.
Yeah the ladies that we have that are high and mighty are a joke... But we really do have some amazing ladies.. Gossip and drama always happens though, especially since it's such a small squadron.
