Getting married in Delaware...experience anyone?

We are getting married in Delaware and would like for our friend who lives in North Carolina to officiate. He is going to get ordained online (probably through the Universal Life Church). Does anyone from Delaware have any experience with a similar situation - involving either an out of state officiant or an officiant ordained online (or ideally both)? Are there any special procedures that we/he needs to do prior to the ceremony? Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

  • More importantly, you need to call the clerk of court in Delaware!  Please don't just take legal advice from random people online and assume they know what they're talking about!  The clerk's office will be able to tell you what you need to do.  Some states have very complicated procedures for out-of-state ministers, and some don't allow online ordinations at all.
