Im getting a pedicure and sitting next to two girls who are military wives. How do I know you ask? They both are wearing the dog tags around the neck. And I can tell they ain't military themselves.

Re: For your enjoyment

  • Bahaha I bet their employment on FB says Military wife lol
  • It'd be really funny if they are Lurkers here haha.
    image
  • HA! I'm excited to move near a military base so I can see this stuff with my own eyes.
  • are you sure they are wives and not girlfriends? baha. I know a lot of GF's that do that.

Maybe they aren't engagement rings, they're promise rings.

  • Oh Gg's shady, don't get us wrong. Haha no this is hilarious. I don't even have a good comeback. But it reminds me of some girlfriend who was lurking on MN and busted out with "You're gold diggers! I dont even get TRICARE!" .....yeah, ok.
    image
  • Yeah I'm totes a golddigger. That's why I make more than my husband haha.

They seemed obnoxious. Now I am clearly basing this on them wearing dog tags and that's it. But yes, I'm guessing they are obnoxious.

And I'm shady as fuuck, but at least I don't wear H's dog tags.

  • That's cute (insert sarcasm)!  Ok that has to be my biggest peeve. I see them a something that they use to identify a body or injured solider.  So why in the world would I want to wear that.
  • I would have been an ass and been like "Oh hi, I see your dog tags, thank you for your service! My husband is in the Navy..." "Oh we aren't in the military... our H/FI/BF is..." "Oh... then why are YOU wearing their dog tags? What happens if he dies, they won't be able to identify his body..."

I wore FI's spare tags while he was deployed sometimes.  I certainly never flaunted them. I always tucked them into my shirt so it wasn't obvious. I just liked having a part of him close by when I went to class or work or whatever. I would have been mortified to flaunt them and have someone falsely address my service!

And I would never wear them when he's at home! That would be too weird.

I didn't have an e ring at that point so maye that was part of it. Did any of you EVER wear your H's tags at any point? Maybe I'm just super lame. I'm totally fine accepting that I'm super lame.

No way! To me that is a way to identify a body and there was no way I was going to wear that and remind me of what could happen.  Not to mention it has H's SSN on it as well as blood type.  I just don't think they should be worn at all unless by the person who they belong to.

Huh. I didn't really look at it that way. He gave them to me before he left with a tag that said "May the Lord keep watch between you and me while we are apart.” and he wore a matching tag on his. I have NO military in my family and I didn't have a personal relationship with anyone in the military before I met FI so since he gave it to me I just thought it's what people do when they are apart/going through a deployment.

  • Yeah and I guess I also see it as part of his uniform as well.  I would not wear his ACUs, rank, ribbons or beret so why would I wear his dog tags?

    </div><div>This. </div><div>
</div><div>I do have a few friends who wear their FI's (one in particular that ALWAYS has them on) and I really just don't get it. She's a sweet girl, and I don't think she does it to be an AW, but really the only reason I don't judge the shiit out of her for it is because I know her and have known her for a long time. I think a lot of the time people wear their SO's tags as an AW "hey my SO is in the service" thing. These are (often likely to be) the same people who have their occupation as "Military Spouse" and have the "Hardest Job in the Navy/MC/CG/AF/Army" bumper stickers. This is totally me being judgey. </div><div>
</div><div>FYI, the Mizpah jewelry I think is cool.... but I wouldn't want a tag shaped one for me to wear. I would perhaps get HIM a tag shaped one to wear with his tags while deployed, but I wouldn't want to wear something resembling a dog tag.... just because of the reasons crown stated... and I wouldn't want someone to think I was in the service. This <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/181410691210148445/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">(clicky)</a> is the style I've seen that I like. I'd wear something similar to this. (and I'm totally with Crown on the not wanting to wear my So's SS# around... talk about ID theft risk) </div><div>

Just to clarify, the FI got the tags for both of us to wear... I would not have picked this out by myself. This is kind of what it looks like: <a href="http://www.shieldsofstrength.com/prodbrands_detail.cfm?catID=1&ProductID=207" rel="nofollow">http://www.shieldsofstrength.com/prodbrands_detail.cfm?catID=1&ProductID=207</a> but the flag is in color....

I know it's kind of cheesy but the love of my life was deploying and how dare I not wear the gift he got me! :-P

I completely understand what you all are saying.
