He's getting fired in two weeks and he doesn't know it yet, which makes it a bit awkward and I feel bad for him and his family, but man oh man am I relieved!  The stress is like 200x less!

No, I don't think he has a clue.  In fact, I know he doesn't.  It's all rather awkward and uncomfortable.

He's declared bankruptsy twice (I know this because he told a prospect in a meeting... I'm not even kidding).  He has 4 kids, and none of them have health insurance and haven't for the last 2 years.  So that's why I feel bad.  But it's not guilty - I know that he's the one who tanked this for himself.  But still, I feel sad for his family.

I mean, if I were going to hire someone to run my operations in a different country, I'd want a credit report to know who I was getting into business with.  And there is no way they did that because they'd never have hired him.

Wow, I can't believe he told a prospect this. I'm guessing since you said prospect and not client, that they didn't use you guys! LOL, ummm, not a smart move, "boss man". Wow, and to claim bankruptcy twice?! Like, how do you make that mistake twice? Once, fineee, but twice? Ouch. Yeah, I get why you feel bad, those poor kids :(. So, why are they waiting 2 wks? I'm pretty sure you said why, but I think I forgot.

No health insurance for the kiddos?
Washington state pays for children's health insurance if parents don't... That's one of the coolest things about the state budget I learned when I first moved here (not that it affects me at all... I just think that is really great since kids don't have control over it)
Boo your boss, but that's good for you. Don't feel badly for him. It's not on you. It's his personal work performance, and not yours, that is getting him fired. And you're not  the one doing the firing. Let it be a weight off your shoulders, FINALLY.

There has got to be some kind of program that those kids can get on for healthcare...

EDIT: Yeah, there is, and it took me 2 seconds to find.

He has no excuse for that.

Who knows, maybe his wife is a compulsive shopper? Or if they don't have insurance all his cash goes to medical bills etc.

Filing bankruptcy can happen for a magnitude of reason, so I guess I don't judge that as harshly.

I get that it happens, I almost claimed bankruptcy once when I was younger due to a shady bf taking cards out in my name, so I know it happens for many reasons. But, going through it twice seems incredibly irresponsible. Unless, of course, it's a matter of having your own business and things go bad more than once... I guess you're right, it shouldn't be judged too harshly, not knowing the circumstances... but we don't like Cal's boss, so I was thinking it's ok ;)

Ugh these sort of situations do make me feel bad for the families. We had to fire someone at work--I mean, I had nothing to do with it, but this guy got fired--basically for being a racist, lazy, liar--but he had two teenagers and his wife didn't work. I mean, how do they make it?? Sad....

But I'm SURE your work life will be MUCH better Cal, and we care about that more!!

I get that he is unliked. From what I hear, it's hard TO like the guy. But for me the bankruptcy doesn't make him worse.

It was more that he told a prospect about the bankruptsy than the fact that he claimed it twice.  I mean, that's just so unprofessional!  From what I understand, he owned his own company and lost everything and then got hired somewhere and got fired.  So outside circumstances definitely played a role, but still.  Never ever tell a prospect, ya know?

And the fact that there IS a way for his kids to get insurance and he's not taking advantage of it just angers me for his kids' sake.

CAB, they're waiting 2 weeks because I'm here alone.  They just hired a new girl and she starts in 2 weeks.  One of the partners is flying back in to speak with him and help onboard the new girl.  I don't have to be here the day he gets let go - they're going to send me a text in the morning so I don't come in, because that would be incredibly awkward for all of us seeing as how the office is like one joined space.

I'm a little bit nervous about how he'll respond in general.  I mean, he's looking at losing everything a 3rd time since I know he's living paycheck-to-paycheck and just barely scraping by.  Part of me is afraid he'll just flip out.  FI has me bringing my pepper spray to work every day, and keeping it in my purse, just in case he gets confrontational for any reason.

Sorry if I've offended you over my comment. It was in no way my general view of people claiming bankruptcy. Like I said, I've been there.

Not offended at all. Just saying I don't judge the guy for it. Although I agree with Calindi that it's unprofessional to share with a prospective client.
