Last Addressing Question

Okay - So I need to address my FI's best mans invite - I don't just want to hand him an invite. But I never thought to ask or think about this - he is also Navy. (And this applies to some other people we are inviting too)
So the question I'm asking is do I address it as
Mr. Best Man First Name, Last Name

or

Petty Officer 2nd Class Last Name, First Name.

And what about some of our married friends whose SO is Navy? As well as a joint Navy unmarried living together couple?

I never thought about this.... Help. Please and Thank you! Smile

I believe you would address it

Petty Officer Second Class First Name Last Name

not sure about inner envelope though, I would assume it would be the same thing, or just Petty Officer Second Class Last Name? hmm

ETA: people in uniform have higher preference on an invite- so for the couple if the wife is the SM it would be addressed to (for example)

    Lieutenant Lisa Weston
    and Mr Thomas Weston

or for a male it would be reversed: either way the SM gets addressed first and gets their own line on the envelope.

If they are both SM's and have the same rank it would be addressed to

Lieutenant Lisa Weston and Lieutenant Thomas Weston

with the inner envelope being to The Lieutenants Weston

  • The rate doesn't need to be listed for enlisted personnel. I would just address it as Mr. First and Last name.
  • Thanks - yeah my FI just said to not do it since we aren't having a military wedding. I wasn't sure if it was something that was 'supposed' to be done because I know he gets stuff in the mail all the time addressing him by his rank. So just wasn't sure.
    Thanks girls!
