Baby shower gift ideas??

One of my BMs and dearest friend is having her baby shower in a few weekends. I want to get her something really good, since she was SO wonderful for my wedding and is a great friend. I'm thinking I'll do something practical off her registry but I've been scouring Etsy for something really special, and can't find anything I like. She's having a girl but they're not telling anyone the name, so I can't do anything personalized (at least not until the baby is born.) I usually just buy a onesie and call it good but this is my first close friend's baby, kwim? I need help!

Thoughts ladies??

I have one of these that I got when I was a baby.  My grand mother said every little girl should have one.  Granted I never used it.  It is just for show.  HA  I says you have to engrave it.  Mine just has my first inital of my last name on it.  It is more like a keepsake for me.

Edit- I also have a locket with the first letter of my last name on it as well.

For my BFF i got her a laundry basket filled with things on and off her registry, ranging from diapers to onesies to blankets to nursing pads to books for the baby. When the baby was born I then bought something from a specialty shop in my hometown.

What about a nice gift for her?  Maybe a GC for a message or a nice robe for the hospital.  I had so many visitors at the hospital and it was kind of embarassing to be seen in that terrible hospital gown.  My mom brought me a cute silk robe to throw on when visitors came.  It made me feel more human and less gross.

I bought my best friend a child/baby book library when she was pregnant and included a storage shelving unit for those books.  We both love reading, so it was a perfect fit to help her share that love with her child!

If you want to do something personalized, can you make a cute "IOU" certificate to use after the baby is born?

I got a gold watch. I don't wear watches but it wasn't something that I could use right then but its still nice to have. Especially since the person is no longer alive. It has my name and a quote and she signed it

Why don't you make a diaper cake.  You can add anything you want to those.  Whenever I make them for my friends they LOVE them.

I don't think that is lame at all. You could maybe get a charm with her initals on it and start a charm bracelet for her.  She can add to it as she gets older with charms from the places she has been.  I think I sound so old school right now.  I must have been born in the 50s.  HAA just kidding!   I do have of them as I am always running out of space.

Crown I think charm bracelets are sort of coming back around! I do like the idea of her initial and the baby's too.

I LOVE the diaper cakes!  They're super cute.

My friend owns a company in the UK that bedazzles baby things.  It's adorable.  Maybe something like that?  Maybe "Little Miss (Last name)" on something, like a bib?

If you're at all crafty, I pinned some cute pacifier clips that you can make yourself.  They are really cute! http://pinterest.com/pin/350828137/

I do like the idea of something for the mother too!

Buy her a photo shoot for the baby when he/she is born! Those usually run about a hundred bucks or so, and it's a great gift bc people have a hard time spending that money on themselves. If she has other kids it's a great way to do a family shoot with the newborn!

Check living social for good deals on local family photographers if you don't know any in that area yourself. :)

I second this. I bought my friend 2, 2 hour shoots. One maternity and one newborn. The pictures turned out amazing.

This is a brilliant idea! I'm going to have to remember it for the next time I have a baby shower to go to.

One of the guys in my grad school class just had a baby and he and I agreed that cash or giftcards to Target or wherever they shop is probably best. Especially since babies outgrow onesies and diaper sizes so fast.

If you want to definitely get a gift-gift, then I think the photo shoot thing sounds great!

I made this for one of my close friends who just had her baby. She loved it - and whats awesome about it is that she can use everything on it!

    Its a Diaper Bike :)
