Military discounts

Does anyone else always ask about a military discount wherever they go?  I love it!

Ditto. I ask a lot. H refuses. Although he finally took the Mil Discount at the Movie Theatre. Baby Steps. :)

I ask sometimes when I feel it's appropriate.  I don't feel like I should ask restaurants and stuff, but wedding-related stuff I always asked and saved several thousands of dollars.  Hotels & travel stuff I also ask.  We take advantage of the discounts for theme parks and stuff.

This is kind of a weird intro post, though.  Hi, how are you?  Tell us about yourself.  Are you military or is your BF/FI/DH (or GF/FI/DW, I suppose could be true, too)?

I don't do it often.. Like usually hotels or travel, but generally that's it. H doesn't ever..  I asked more when I was AD, but as a spouse sometimes I don't feel like it's "my" discount.  I know it is, but idk.. it makes me feel weird in the same way I feel weird when people Thank me for my service (as a spouse).  He's doing the hard work, I just happen to be without him.

I've asked once, when we were renting a moving van and it was a nice discount. I was okay with it because it was something that benefited both of us (yay having furniture). I think we also got one when we got my oil changed and battery replaced because FI took it in in uniform, but they advertise their military discount pretty heavily at the garage we go to.
We were offered one, funnily enough, at The Limited when the checkout girl just happened to see FI's ID when he opened his wallet to pay, but I never would have thought to ask for one randomly like at a restuarant or clothing store.

I'm with Cal and Sami, I'd probably use it for hotels or travel (or Disney), but it's not something I think about using everyday. I actually got the "thank you for your FI's and your service" once and it was very weird. I just try to remember that people's hearts are in the right place.

We got an awesome deal at Disneyland. I'm hoping the venue we might be going with has one.

I don't very often but we don't live in a military area.  Michigan does not have an active duty base for any of the services so it isn't something a lot of retailers and businesses see on a daily basis.  I do ask at Lowe's and New York and Co.

I have absolutely no problem asking for one, but I usually know who offers it and who doesn't. The B&B we're staying at the night of the wedding didn't ever really offer one until we asked. They said they had never really thought about it before but said they support the military and gave us a 15% discount.

I usually just hand over my mil ID with my debit card for identification purposes. This gives them the opportunity to offer you one. I love when they bring my check back at a restaurant and tell me they adjusted the price for my discount.

I ask, my FH never does. I didn't even think about asking for discounts on wedding stuff, thanks for sharing that:)

That, I have found is the best time to ask.  When I am away from a military base people are taken aback and offer bigger discounts than they do closer to the bases.
