I have not a clue what detassling is or how you'd meet someone during it.

I met mine on September 7, 2008 on the grass in front of the Washington Monument.  We were on the same kickball team, and I joined a week into the season so technically it was the team's second game but my first.  We lost - miserably.  But FI and I became best friends, and two and a half months later he kissed me over a game of Monopoly!

I met FI through a mutual friend. I was hanging out at her apartment with some friends when he and one of his friends stopped by. He asked me out on our first date 2 weeks later when he was home again from flight school :)

It's true you always say detassling and I have noooo idea what that is. DH and I met when we were 10. His dad had gotten stationed in our town as a recourse. However we actually met on a water ride at Hershey Park 3 hours from home. They had put both our families in the same raft. A week later He got on my school bus and we were like, "heeeeey!!". Everyone was confused except us. He also ended up living down the street. We've been friends ever since but it took him many years to ever ask me out. He was the bad boy in school and threw a friend of his out of his chair at lunch and dumped his tray on him so I could sit with him. Yep, that's how I got asked out. Don't judge him for that though. He's really a good guy. ETA: I just realized the iPhone decided my FIL was a recourse. He was a recruiter.

FI and I meet.. in a unique way. lol.
I was working at Arby's (I was 19 at the time) until I could find a better job and I had a good friend in drive thru and I was in the back and she told me there were two cute guys in the drive thru so I came up and we were flirting with them - me the passenger and her - the driver. And they were flirting back. So they were getting ready to pull off and I could tell the passenger was interested so I told the driver that my friend wanted his number and I wanted his friends number. I texted him 3 days later and we spent every day together before he left 3 months later for a month of being underway. So.. yeah I picked FI up in the Drive-Thru. lol :)

I met Fi at a Starbucks :P I was there studying and he was coming in to study himself... overheard me talking to a couple people about being a military brat and it gave him his easy "in" to start chatting with me.. We sat and talked for 3 hours that night, and when I had to leave he was soooo uncomfortable and stuttering over his words trying to ask for my number that I thought he was adorable and gave it to him. First guy I have ever given my number to without really knowing. He said that he had started falling for me that day, and new we would end up something special... such a sap :)

H and I met on a school bus.  But not in a cute, we met in grade school way.  it was a rented drunk bus on our way to a Bills home opener game, and it turned out that we both bought season tickets with the same group of mutual friends.  We hung out all day tailgating and at the game, got completely hammered, fell asleep on the bus together after the game, then went out for pizza with everyone when the bus got back. He asked for my number at the end of the night and text me 2 days later.

Sorry detasseling is where you pick the tassels of corn. You get up super early and it's a horrible job but pays well. FI was a team leader and it was like his 3rd year and my first. Each team goes to a plot of rows and you go through and pick the tassels off the top lol. Never thought I'd do that kind of work and never will again

Did anyone else think "detassling" sounded like some kind of ceremony?  Since she always said "during detassling" it sounded liked "during graduation" or something like that.  I kept thinking of the tassles on a graduation cap!

<div>Same here! Whenever I see the word I think of tassle on graduation. </div><div>
</div><div>And to answer the question, H and I met through my sister. They were best friends in A school and Power school, I met him when my family and I came over for their graduation there. Then they both ended up in NY for Prototype and were housemates. We all took a roadtrip together when they moved from Charleston to NY. That's how we started getting to know each other, we hit it off really well and we never stopped talking since we met even when I lived thousands of miles away. He asked me out a few months later on Valentine's Day(even sent me flowers, teddy bear, chocolates). I know it's not the most conventional relationship and has been difficult but it was instant with us, we knew early on we'd always end up together. </div>

Oh my! I haven't heard of detassling since my brother did it when we lived in Iowa. I never did it, but I only lived in Iowa for my High School years, then I joined the military. My FI and I met right after basic training, in tech school and were lucky enough to get stationed at both of our following bases together!

I tell everyone that we met on a blind date, which is kind of true. We actually met online, though. We are both really embarrased about it to this day, because neither one of us has ever internet dated until we met eachother. It was something we both were just curious about... that God yahoo was having a free trial that week! :) Now, 2 1/2 years later, about 3 people know the truth, and everyone else thinks we had a falling out with the person who set us up! Ha ha ha...

CAB there are a ton of people who meet onilne now.  At our Pre-Cana class we went to they had every couple tell the group how they met.  There were about 40-50 couples there, and at least half said they met online.

CAB, there's no shame in it!  I know a ton of very happy couples who met online.  FI and I were both on Match.com when we met, but I never saw his profile (he says he saw mine but that he 'wasn't contacting anyone'.  He's gotten a hard time from me for that, haha!).  We had some striking similarities in our profiles, though - like we both wanted to climb Kilimanjaro some day (we're actually trying to do it for our 1st anniversary).  Literally, we both mentioned Kilimanjaro!

I ran into a friend that I hadn't seen in a while.  She introduced me to her fiance and his friend.  Hello, friend!!  We hung out all night all weekend after that.  We've been together for nearly 6 years now.

Ha ha, that's funny! I mean, I know it's not a BAD thing now, but when we first met, we totally thought it to be super taboo, and now that we've gone 2 1/2 years without telling family members (my 3 best friends know, who are really the only people I talk to on a reg. basis), and he has gone the whole time telling NO ONE on his side, it's almost like we can't go back and tell them how we really met. Unless we have our officiant say it in the ceremony! Ha ha, that would be funny...

Mr. Wonderful and I met through his mother.

She and I worked at the same hospital I never knew her name nor bothered to ask as she asked for mine. She kept trying to get us to meet. I told her I wasn't interested I had 2 teen agers at the time, and 2 jobs(the one I am still at and the hosp. which was part time) she went as far as bringing in pictures of him, and having her co-workers keep asking if we met yet. So I HATED going out of the lab and running into those pesty house-keepers.

One night I was called to go to a room to draw blood(that's the only thing I can draw, I mean I can't even draw stick people!!, I was known as the artist around there I could get blood from a turnip if I had to per say) So, I walked in this room glanced at the family members while making sure I had the right bed, and there he was! I looked at the pateints name looked at the woman didn't recognise her but the color of red dyed hair gave her away on who she was and she had a massive stroke. I so wanted to run out of that room! Needless to say I had to stick her twice I missed the first I was so nervous!

I politely left went to get the elevator and here he comes, swaying back and forth asking if he could take me out! The elevator was taking forever! I told him my plate was full I didn't;t have time to waste on and explained my 2 jobs and kids, was ready getting on the elevator and he joined, I talked some more about how I never want to date anyone ever again that I have had my mind made up I was going to be single till my last breath and his come back was"Well since your plate is full, I just want you to know that I have an empty platter" What the heck was I to say to that?

So we have been togethr for 9 years, mom passed 2 yrs ago and here we are. I feel guily to a degree that she had to take a stroke to get us to meet, and at times I wish I would have taken a bigger one to get away from his family! Innocent

ETA: My ex, we met in HS. He was Army NG, then went into the Air Force.

We met at USAFA... three different times, before it stuck!

I worked on group staff, so he got emails from me sometimes since he was in charge of his SQ. We kinda knew each other from that. Then we met in physical therapy (my busted shoulder, his busted ankle)... during which he couldn't remember if he had met me before and literally thought I had a twin haha. Then we finally ran into each other in a hallway one day and talked about the weird sunset that afternoon... after that we started emailing back and forth.

Our first date was a lunch date, it went really well, and when he dropped me off, he said "Keep in touch!" and drove off. I figured I'd never hear from him again after a line like THAT. But literally, he apparently meant that he wanted to stay in touch. Silly boys.

Ok, so we probably met when we were little since I danced with his sister for a long time, but neither of us remember that.

Then in 2006, I was dating one of his friends and I had a house party that he came to, nothing happened obviously since I was in a relationship. He did say that he thought I was crazy and funny though.

Fast forward to 2007, ex and I broke up however we had a alot of mutual friends and such. He kept hanging out with "my group" to put it that way, so when one of his friends (platonic friend of mine) asked me to go the Streetlight Manifesto concert I accepted. H was there, we got drunk, drinks were spilled, good times were had. He was supposed to be my summer fling.... and now 4 years later we are married. Tongue out
