Wedding Insurance

I am sure we all have to deal with the reality of deployments, and I was looking for some help with insurance/clauses. Do any of you buy wedding insurance? Were your vendors open to having a military clause in the contract? How did you phrase the clause? Did anyone have a situation where the vendor would not put the clause into the contract? If you date had to change how did you go about contacting the vendors? Ahhh so many questions! Gotta love AFSF!

Do any of you buy wedding insurance?
I did not purchase insurance because I was given verbal and written confirmation (Military clauses in the contracts) that every single vendor would either refund my deposit or transfer it to a later date.

Were your vendors open to having a military clause in the contract?
    Yes

How did you phrase the clause?
    We phrased as such ....
In the event that the groom is unable to attend due to military obligations, VENDOR agrees to transfer all funds collected to a later date. In the event that the Vendor is not available for said date, VENDOR agrees to return all money collected at that time, up to 2 weeks prior to original contract date.

So basically I will get all my money back as long as we cancel/switch dates 2 weeks in advance. Note: Some of the vendors didn't like that I wanted my deposit back so close to the planned date, they either did it anyway to keep my business or I went to another vendor.

Did anyone have a situation where the vendor would not put the clause into the contract? Yes, and we didn't go with them.

I was also clear when we first contacted Vendors that FI is in the service, and still completing training so his leave was far from guaranteed. That will help make sure you get better vendors.

If you date had to change how did you go about contacting the vendors?
Call them AS SOON AS I knew FI couldn't make it.

Ditto Shan.  We didnt' buy any insurance, just had military clauses in all of our contracts.  We were pretty lax on it though because H was on shore duty at the same so we knew he would be able to make it.  Our biggest problem was booking our date since our original date was after we were PCS-ing and he was on sea duty again.

We only had ourselves penciled in for our location and reception venues until getting H's new orders, and they agreed to call us if anyone else expressed interest in the date.  When we realized we had to bump it up, I called the church and reception venue and asked for a list of available Fridays and Saturdays in July and August.  Then I compared the 2 lists, and had a choice of 2 dates.  We didn't book any other vendors until we had H's orders and our date set.

Hey!! I have a Luke too!!
We we're really like 99% sure that Hubby would make it, and we still put a clause in. Basically ours said that if He or I couldn't make it, due to military obligations, we would change our date, or if no date worked out, then we would be refunded not only our deposit, but everything that had been paid, including hotel rooms. I had everything from 1 vendor, so it was easier that way, but most vendors will be more than willing, and if they aren't don't use them!!! Good Luck!!!

That is great that you are able to get Military clauses in your contract with your vendors!  So glad to see that those who deserve our respect and admiration for fighting for us are able to receive this!.

Lets say the vendor of your choice doesn't allow it, but you still need that dress or that venue or that photographer for other reasons.   We have access to wedding insurance that WILL provide coverage if you or your fiance gets called up unexpectedly.  call Chris 857-816-4935 or click here for more information!
